Looks like Koenigsegg, the Swedish supercar maker, is making a habit out of slaying giants. After making a joke of the Bugatti Chiron’s record, Koenigsegg has decided to take on the just announced Hennessey Venom F5.
Unveiled at SEMA earlier this week, the Hennessey Venom F5 was teased with a 300mph road-sign. If the whispers are to be believed, even the Bugatti Chiron is readying itself for a 300mph (483kmph) run next year. But looks like Koensigsegg has other plans. At its test run in Nevada, US, Koenigsegg’s Agera RS clocked 277.9mph (447kmph) on public roads, making it officially the fastest car in the world as of today. It is said that this attempt has been in the works for over a year and the timing couldn’t have been better.
The car in question, the Agera RS, is the same car that demolished the Chiron’s record last month. Bugatti, in 2010, had won the fastest car crown after the unrestricted Bugatti Super Sport clocked 267.81mph (431kmph). Powered by a bi-turbo 5.0-litre V8, the Agera RS develops 1360bhp of power and a whopping 1371Nm of torque and weighs a shade under 1300kg.
