- Kia Syros was launched in India on 1 February
- Both cars also available with diesel power

A close battle
Rs. 10,000. That’s the price difference between a fully loaded Fearless Plus PS petrol automatic Tata Nexon and a Kia Syros in its HTX trim. But look closer, and there is a difference between both these cars. Here’s what you should know.

The similarities
On the face of it, both cars get climate control rear AC vents, digital screens, LED light package, connected car technology, powered driver’s seat with ventilation, panoramic sunroof with voice control, power mirrors, and power windows. These are segment-standard features that we now expect in top-spec models in this price bracket.

Points of separation
However, dig deeper and you can see that the Tata Nexon gets a 360-degree camera, while the Syros is a larger car with the slide and recline function. The latter is one of the USPs of the Syros and is in fact offered from the HTK+ variant.

What’s more - the Nexon is taller and has a higher ground clearance, while the Syros has a longer wheelbase, which is another USP.. Both cars are evenly matched in terms of safety features, but the Nexon has a five-star BNCAP rating, while the Syros is yet to be tested.

Specifications
The Kia Syros is powered by a 1.0-litre GDi turbo petrol motor, producing 118bhp and 172Nm torque. The transmission is a seven-speed DCT, but is also offered with a six-speed MT.

The Nexon’s 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor produces 118bhp and 170Nm torque. This can be had either with a seven-speed DCT or a six-speed manual gearbox.

Pricing
Like we said, there is a difference of Rs.10,000 separating the cars, with the Tata Nexon priced at Rs. 14.70 lakh and the Kia Syros at Rs. 14.60 lakh. However, the Syros does go higher up the pricing beanstalk, considering that Kia has not yet launched a GT-Line or an X-Line variant, while the Nexon has topped out at this point.
