Kia has unveiled the new Seltos in India, and one of the most significant changes is the shift to the brand’s global K3 platform. While the outgoing model was based on the SP2 architecture, it had begun to show its age, especially in areas such as structural rigidity, crash safety potential, and future scalability for technology. With rising customer expectations and tougher safety norms, the SP2 platform had reached its developmental limits. This is where the K3 architecture steps in.
The earlier platform, although competent and successful, was not engineered for the rapidly growing demand for ADAS capabilities, larger digital screens, and increasing electrification readiness. It also limited Kia’s ability to upgrade NVH performance and interior space without a complete structural overhaul. The new K3 platform addresses these constraints with a more adaptable, future-proof foundation.
According to Kia, the K3 architecture delivers better torsional rigidity. This improves crash protection, and allows the new Seltos to meet global safety standards more effectively. The move to K3 has also allowed Kia to integrate a more advanced version of Level 2 ADAS.
