- Entry-level variant priced at Rs. 11.49 lakh
- Available with both petrol and diesel power
If you have seen our images and videos of the Carens Clavis, then most of what you have seen is the top-of-the-line HTX+ variant. But, what if you want the entry-spec, no-frills model, aka the HTE variant? Well, here’s what it offers.
Engine Options
The HTE variant can be had with either the 1.5-litre NA petrol or the 1.5-litre diesel. The former produces 113bhp and 144Nm, while the latter produces 114bhp and 250Nm. They can only be had with a six-speed MT system.

Exterior Highlights
The base model is available in the complete colour range offered with the Carens Clavis, but the diesel and petrol get different alloy designs, with the former being a more premium version and one size bigger. The other two big changes are that the top-spec versions get LED projector headlamps and chrome door handles, while this base model gets regular projector units and body-coloured door handles.

Interior and Feature Highlights
The cabin has dual-tone beige with blue inserts, and is only available in a seven-seat guise, achieved via bench seats for the second row. You get the same one-piece unit for the dashboard, but there is no infotainment screen. The instrument cluster is a digital unit, but far more basic than what’s offered on the top-spec versions.

Pricing
The HTE petrol is priced at Rs. 11.50 lakh, while the diesel is priced at Rs. 13.50 lakh. This entry-level petrol version, at least on paper, is priced as much as the pre-facelift Carens, which is now available as a single Premium (O) variant but offers far lesser features, chief of which is that it’s missing a touchscreen infotainment system.
