- 60-litre CNG tank
- 1.5-litre petrol with six MT
Recently, Kia showcased CNG-powered variants of the Carens and Clavis at the launch of the Sorento SUV and has now opened bookings for the same, with a launch expected soon.
Carens Clavis CNG
The Carens Clavis CNG will be offered in the HTE and HTE (O) variants and be powered by the automaker’s 1.5-litre engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. It will be offered with a 60-litre CNG tank and with engine output standing at 95bhp and 123Nm. The model showcased at the unveiling had alloy wheels, projector headlamps, a digital instrument cluster, and a touchscreen infotainment system and in a seven-seat guise.

Carens CNG
The Carens CNG will be offered in the Premium (O) trim and the same 1.5-litre petrol mated to a six-speed MT. As part of Kia’s B2B push, the Carens CNG will also be available on the M-Drive G1.5 6MT trim, while the Carens Clavis CNG will be offered on the HTMG1.5 6MT trim.
Maruti CNG rival
CNG has grown in a big way in this part of the market with Maruti’s complete range getting CNG power. In this case, the Carens and Clavis CNG are direct rivals for the Ertiga and XL6 CNG, both of which are sold in the commercial and private market. The package from Kia, on paper at least, looks like a solid fight for the Maruti duo and the crucial bit will be pricing. CNG to petrol, Maruti has a jump of up to Rs. 1 lakh, and Kia should aim to offer a similar or lesser delta variant for variant across both cars.
