Hyundai Venue fuel efficiency revealed; Here's how it compares to its rivals

After much anticipation, Hyundai Venue is finally here. This is Hyundai’s first plunge into the lucrative sub-four-metre SUV segment. And although it is late to the party, the Venue’s portfolio is backed by a long feature list and contemporary powertrain options. Yes, the Venue is the first vehicle in the segment to get a direct-injection engine in the 1.0-litre GDI guise. And now the Venue’s fuel efficiency figures are out.  With 18.27kmpl, the Hyundai Venue 1.0-litre turbo-petrol with six-speed manual transmission is now the most efficient petrol SUV in India. And in the automatic (seven-speed DCT) guise, the ARAI claimed fuel economy is 18.15kmpl.

Interestingly, Hyundai is offering the Venue 1.2 petrol with a five-speed manual gearbox only with no choice of automatic. And this motor claims a fuel efficiency of 17.52kmpl. The diesel, on the other hand, is the same 1.4-litre CRDi which does duty elsewhere in Hyundai’s line-up and claims a healthy fuel efficiency of 23.7kmpl. 

Compared to its rivals, the 1.0-litre petrol-manual GDI Venue (with its 18.2kmpl) bests the Ford EcoSport’s 1.0-litre EcoBoost motor by a trivial margin, as the latter claims a fuel efficiency of 18.1kmpl. The 1.2-litre Venue also edges ahead of the competition with its 17.52kmpl compared to the Ford EcoSport 1.5, Mahindra XUV300 and Tata Nexon. 

Moving on to the petrol-automatic version of the Venue, the DCT’s 18.15kmpl is way better than the Nexon’s 17kmpl and EcoSport’s 14.8kmpl. Point to be noted here is that the Tata is an AMT while the Ford comes with a torque converter.

Next up, the diesel. Here, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza takes the crown with its 24.29kmpl claimed figure compared to Venue’s 23.7kmpl. But the Venue manages to keep the EcoSport (23kmpl), Nexon (21.5kmpl) and XUV300 (20kmpl) at bay. Sadly though, the Venue doesn’t have a diesel automatic option at the moment which is offered with Nexon and Vitara Brezza.
