- Likely to get petrol and CNG powertrains
- To sit between Venue and Creta
Hyundai Motor India has officially confirmed the name of its upcoming SUV for India as Bayon. The new model will be the latest addition to Hyundai’s SUV portfolio and is expected to be positioned as a compact SUV for the Indian market sitting between the Venue and the Creta.
The announcement is currently limited to the name, with Hyundai saying that more details about the Bayon will be revealed in the coming days. The company has also highlighted the SUV’s focus on technology, intelligent mobility and a design aimed at the evolving preferences of Indian buyers.

Hyundai has not revealed the powertrain or specifications of the Bayon yet. However, we speculate that the SUV could be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, paired with both manual and automatic gearbox options. A CNG version could also be on the cards, considering the growing demand for alternative-fuel powertrains in the Indian market. This, however, remains speculation at this stage.

The production-spec design of the Bayon is also yet to be revealed. Based on what we expect from Hyundai’s upcoming SUV, we have created a render showcasing how we think the Bayon could look. The render is our interpretation of the SUV and is not an official image from Hyundai, so the production model could feature several design changes when it is unveiled.
Interestingly, the name Bayon is inspired by Bayonne, a city in the French Basque Country. Hyundai says the name reflects the city’s distinctive character and dynamic spirit, while also representing the new SUV’s sense of adventure.
Hyundai says the Bayon marks the beginning of a new chapter for its SUV line-up in India. More details about the new SUV are expected to be announced shortly.
