- Maximum speed for private cars increased to 120kmph on expressway and 100kmph on highways

The Union government of India has passed a new law stating the increase in speed limit for vehicles on highways and expressways. With this amendment, cars can now ply the expressways at a maximum speed of 120kmph, which was earlier limited to 100kmph. As for the national highways, the speed limit has been increased from 80kmph to 100kmph.
Inside city roads, cars can now do 70kmph against the earlier limit of 50kmph. On the highways, two-wheelers can now go up to 80kmph from the earlier 60kmph limit. Inside city, the two-wheelers can now do 60kmph, which is an increase of 20kmph over the earlier limit.
Speaking of commercial vehicles, taxis can now clock a maximum speed of 100kmph as against the earlier limit of 80kmph on the expressway. As for highways, taxis can go up to 90kmph, which is about 10kmph more than the earlier limit. Inside city, taxis have to adhere to the 70kmph limit just like other vehicles.
It is worth noting that these changes in maximum speed limit are only applicable to certain sections of the expressways and the highways. The speed restrictions on the curves and accident prone sections remain unchanged. Similarly, there is no change in area-specific speed limit enforced by the state agencies on roads and highways passing through towns and villages.
