Ford India recalls 1.66 lakh units of the Figo and Classic

Ford India has recalled total of 1, 66,021 units of the Figo hatchback and the Classic sedan to check a potential issue with the rear twist beam and the power assisting steering hose. This is the second major recall for the American automaker in less than three months, it had previously recalled diesel variants of  the EcoSport on July 11 for an issue with the Glow Plug control module.

The American manufacturer is currently inspecting the rear axle of 1, 31,922 cars for possible defect that may result in unstable ride, handling and braking. The power steering hose of 34,099 cars will be replaced where 30,681 units are Ford Figos and the rest Classic sedans. This recall will impact vehicles that were manufactured between January 2010 and June 2012.

The company has confirmed that there have been no injuries or accidents related to these issues have been reported. Ford said it is contacting owners of the potentially affected vehicles through notification letters.

"Ford India is extending its existing voluntary field service action (FSA) and will recall the remaining batches of Ford Figo and Ford Classic models to inspect them for potential issues related to the rear twist beam (RTB) and the power assisted steering (PAS) hose. The recall is to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our customers by inspecting and replacing any potentially affected parts as required... Ford India will continue to drive this service initiative through its authorised dealers." said Ford India said in an official statement.
