- Ferrari’s new flagship model
- Replaces the Ferrari SF90 Stradale in the brand’s line-up
Ferrari has unveiled the new Ferrari 849 Testarossa in India today, priced at Rs. 10.37 crore, ex-showroom, before options. The model becomes the brand’s new flagship offering and replaces the Ferrari SF90 Stradale in the marque’s global line-up.
The revival of the Testarossa nameplate marks a significant moment for the Italian carmaker. The badge has not appeared on a new Ferrari since the Ferrari F512 M ended production in 1996. With the new model, Ferrari brings back one of its most iconic nameplates after nearly three decades, albeit with a thoroughly modern interpretation.
Powering the new supercar is a reworked 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with three electric motors and a lithium-ion battery pack. Unlike the original flat-12-powered Testarossa, the new model adopts a plug-in hybrid setup similar in concept to the Ferrari SF90 Stradale. The combined output stands at around 1,050bhp, making it the most powerful production Ferrari to date and placing it in the same performance league as the Lamborghini Revuelto.
Performance figures are equally dramatic. The 849 Testarossa can sprint from 0-100kmph in under 2.3 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 330kmph. The plug-in hybrid system also enables a limited pure-electric driving range of up to 25km. Additionally, the front wheels are powered by electric motors, allowing the car to offer advanced torque vectoring and limited electric-only driving capability.
In terms of design, the new model draws inspiration from the classic Testarossa while incorporating cues from Ferrari’s contemporary supercar family. The styling references the wide proportions and dramatic surfacing of the original 1980s icon, now interpreted with modern aerodynamic elements and sharper bodywork.
Ferrari has also introduced extensive aerodynamic and chassis upgrades. Active aerodynamic elements can generate over 400kg of downforce at high speeds, improving stability and track performance. The car also features updated chassis electronics, advanced torque-vectoring systems, and a high-performance braking package.
A retractable hard-top Spider version of the 849 Testarossa is also expected to follow, similar to Ferrari’s strategy with models such as the Ferrari SF90 Spider. As with most flagship Ferraris, production numbers are expected to remain limited, with a majority of units likely to be pre-allocated to the brand’s loyal clientele.
