- BYD Seal U DM-i rival
- First range extender to be patented here
A while back, the Chery Exeed Exlantix ET was spotted testing in India. While a flurry of patents, spy shots, and trademarks continues, the former has seen a new addition – the Exeed EX7 REEV (Range Extender EV). This is a type of New Energy Vehicle, wherein the engine never directly connects to the wheel, but supplies power to the battery, which in turn sends power to the traction motor.

Design- and feature-wise, we see squared headlight modules, closed grille and open air vents, single-tone alloys, flushed door handles, roof rails, 19-21-inch tyres, LiDAR sensor, and a full-LED light setup. Internally, the cabin is as screen-replete as it gets. It comprises a large screen for the driver, HUD, 30-inch 6K-res infotainment that extends to the passenger area, Level 2 ADAS, 23-speaker audio, leatherette upholstery, 50W wireless charging, and 60W USB-C ports.

As for the powertrain, the Exeed EX7 REEV is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged motor paired with a 41.16kWh battery. Both 2WD and 4WD drivetrain layouts are available, and the more powerful dual-motor 4WD version has a 201bhp/310Nm front and 304.18bhp/332Nm rear motors. 0-100kmph comes in 4.9 seconds. Claimed combined range goes up to 1,520km (2WD). The battery supports DC fast charging that tops up the battery from 10-80 per cent in 15 minutes. There is no word of an India launch. But if it comes here, it will likely rival the BYD Seal U DM-i Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV).
