- Charging times could come down to five minutes
- Maximum output of 1,360kW
BYD has recently announced the launch of high-capacity EV chargers with a maximum output of 1,360 kW in China. The brand plans to install over 4,000 such chargers across the country, allowing electric cars to be charged as quickly as it takes to refuel petrol cars. These ‘megawatt flash-chargers’ can deliver around 400km of range in five minutes to BYD EVs that can accept that level of power. This is over four times faster than the typical chargers on Tesla’s Supercharger network.
As for the EV charging infrastructure in India, we have a long way to go before EV users here can reap the benefits of such high-intensity chargers. BYD India’s latest offering includes the Sealion 7, and the brand also recently updated the Atto 3 to the MY2025 version. Starting with the updates, the Atto 3 in its 2025 avatar now gets a ventilation function for the front seats, and an all-black interior theme. Additionally, the carmaker claims that it now gets an LFP battery. Notably, over 3,100 units of the model have been sold in India since launch.
Powering the Atto 3 are 49.92kWh and 60.48kWh battery packs, with an ARAI-certified range of 468km and 521km respectively. It is available in three variants, viz. Dynamic, Premium, and Superior, priced at Rs. 24.99 lakh, Rs. 29.85 lakh, and Rs. 33.99 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom), respectively.
