Borgward was a car manufacturing concern founded in 1920 by Carl F. W. Borgward and based in Bremen, Germany. But in 1961, the manufacturer ceased production after going bankrupt. Revived back in 2008 by the founder’s grandson, Christian Borgward, the German carmaker is now based in China. Now Borgward has teased a new concept ahead of its debut at the upcoming 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.
Of the single teaser, the new concept seems to be a sports car with wide wheel arches and a curvy bonnet. There is a sharp bonnet crease that meets the logo in the front and the windscreen seems raked enough for a sports car. It is being speculated that the revived carmaker will introduce the new concept as a modern interpretation of the Borgward Isabella.
The Isabella, sold between 1954 and 1961, when the company shut down, has been one of the successful models for the German marque. Reviving the moniker seems fitting as it was the most popular model the company ever produced. It would mark a different body style as well since its revival and will serve as a halo product for the Chinese-owned German carmaker.
No other details are currently available. More details will surface once the Frankfurt Motor Show draws near. An electric powertrain won’t come as a surprise. It will make its way to European markets eventually but it will primarily be targeting the Chinese market. It will be manufactured at the new European facility that is under development at the marque’s hometown in Bremen.
