BMW India took us by surprise. What was supposed to be a launch of the X1 LWB, also ended up with a showcase of the i5 LWB. The electric sedan has been launched at an ex-showroom price of Rs. 79.60 lakh. With a premium of Rs. 3 lakh over the ICE 5 Series, deliveries begin immediately.

In terms of design, the i5 LWB sports an all-LED light setup, BMW M-Sport dual-tone alloys, illuminated grille, pull-type door handles, 20-inch tyres, 5 series badging, and slim tail lights. It spans 5.18 metres long, 2.15 metres wide, and 1.52 metres tall, with a 3.1-metre wheelbase. The cabin houses crystallised drive selector and drive mode dials, 12.3-inch instrument cluster, 14.9-inch centre screen, vegan leather upholstery, and a panoramic glass roof.

Features include front-seat ventilation, ambient lights, four-zone automatic climate control, Bowers & Wilkins audio, BMW OS 8.5, and Digital Key Plus. There’s also a First Edition with phone/tablet holders on front seatbacks, Carbon Black Metallic exterior colourway with Titanium Bronze accents, Silver Bronze interior accents, and a ‘First Edition’ engraving.
Mechanically, the BMW i5 LWB is powered by a 264bhp/410Nm RWD motor paired with an 81.6kWh battery pack. This setup returns a claimed range of 669km. 0-100kmph comes in 6.7 seconds. Charging speeds of 11kW (AC) and 160kW (DC) are supported, the latter of which can juice up the battery from 10-80 per cent in 33 minutes. Safety features include eight airbags, attentiveness assist, 360° camera, and side-impact protection. Notably, the First Edition was limited to 99 units, all of which have been sold out.
