Audi to recall diesels in Europe to cut harmful emissions

Audi has announced a voluntary recall for 850,000 diesel vehicles in Europe, where the carmaker will update the emission software of all Euro 5 and Euro 6 motors in six and eight cylinder configurations. Audi states that the exercise will further improve their emissions in real driving conditions beyond the current legal requirements.

Audi claims that this preventive measure will be carried out in close association with Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority, and that the service is also being offered to Porsche and Volkswagen models which use the same six and eight cylinder engines. The car maker further reiterated that the updates will be carried out at no cost to owners. 

Sources estimate that with these software updates in place, the auto industry would be able to cut pollution caused by nitrogen oxide by close to 20 percent. Earlier this week, Daimler declared a voluntary recall for more than 3 million Mercedes-Benz diesel cars in Europe for an update that will significantly cut harmful emissions.
