We had earlier reported about Aston Martin signing a new engine deal with Ford amidst reports of a possible technical partnership with Daimler owned AMG. The partnership is now official with both companies officially announcing the tie-up. however, no date has been announced for when the deal will come into effect and we believe that with AM signing a five year extension with Ford for engine supply, the deal may come into effect around 2018.
The deal will allow Aston Martin to utilise Mercedes-Benz and AMG resources which will feature in future from the British luxury car manufacturer. The partnership will see the development of bespoke V8 engines which will be the power source for the next generation Aston Martin models. The Daimler deal will allow AM to utilise electrical and electronic components made by the German automaker.
The deal will benefit Daimler AG with up to five per cent stake in Aston Martin depending on the depth of sharing agreed. The deal will also include a supply agreement shared by Mercedes-AMG GmbH, Daimler AG and Aston Martin.
It will ensure that Aston Martin has a sound future plan for their upcoming models. The current line-up of AM vehicles is powered by Ford V12 and V10 engines, and the company has already announced its proposal to move to a new range of V8 engine. This range of Aston Martin, now we know will most likely be powered by the same engine that is expected to drive the rumoured 911 rival currently dubbed the SLC AMG.
