Chinese carmaker, Haval, is an automotive marque owned by the Chinese automaker Great Wall Motors which is famous for its SUV line-up. With five models on sale already, the carmaker has planned at least three more SUVs in the coming years. One of them is the coupe-crossover body style version of the recently launched H6 crossover. A test mule of the same was spotted testing near the carmaker's headquarters in Baoding, China, for the first time.
The H6 Coupe test mule is basically a production version of the Haval Concept Coupe showcased at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show. There are many design elements borrowed up front from the recently updated H6, like sleeker headlamps, bonnet creases and high ground clearance. Other elements such as the vertically-stacked LED daytime running lights integrated into the front bumper, narrow windows, slit-style LED tail lights and squared-off wheel arches are all scrounged from the Haval Concept Coupe.
The smoothly tapering roofline meets at the raked D-pillar. The rear windscreen is narrow, and the high-mounted tail lights are straight from the Concept. The prototype has a quad circular exhaust set-up rather than the hexagonal chrome tip that was seen on the Concept. The H6debuted the carmaker’s modern design philosophy, and with the H6 Coupe also sporting this familiar design, it seems that we shall see this new motif in all future Haval-badged SUVs.
When launched, the H6 Coupe will come powered with the same powertrain options as the standard H6. The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor producing in excess of 180bhp will be the primary engine option. Transmission option would either be a six-speed DCT or six-speed manual sending power to rear wheels. However, an all-wheel-drive system will also be available.
The H6 is the highest selling SUV from Haval. Introducing a Coupe version of the H6 will allow the carmaker to attract the younger set of car buyers who want a bit of a flair in their sports utility vehicle.
