- Expected to be unveiled in H2 2026
Hyundai is preparing a major generational update for the Tucson, and the first spy shots of the SUV have now surfaced. Codenamed NX5, the next-generation Tucson is expected to make its world debut in the third quarter of 2026, and will bring an all-new design direction, upgraded technology, and a cleaner powertrain line-up.
The new Tucson will adopt Hyundai’s latest ‘Art of Steel’ design philosophy. The styling appears to draw inspiration from the retro-futuristic N Vision 74 concept and the upcoming Nexo, with strong character lines. Interestingly, the test mule also hints at a more rugged, off-road-ready look, reminiscent of Land Rover’s modern design language.
Inside, the 2026 Tucson is expected to undergo a major digital transformation. The SUV will debut Hyundai’s new Pleos OS, displayed on a wide 16:9 screen with a clean, smartphone-like interface. Hyundai is also stepping up the autonomous tech in the upcoming Tucson. The SUV will feature Level 2.5 driver assistance along with a new AI-based assistant named Gleo, which promises more natural conversational interactions, similar to ChatGPT, and it will aid navigation, voice commands, and infotainment tasks.

A significant shift comes under the hood. Hyundai will discontinue diesel engines for the Tucson globally, rather focusing on hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains. The PHEV is likely to deliver around 100km of all-electric range, making it capable of covering everyday city commutes without using the petrol engine.
With its bold new styling, advanced tech suite, and cleaner powertrain line-up, the next-gen Tucson is shaping up to be one of Hyundai’s most important launches in recent years. The SUV is expected to be fully revealed in late 2026, with market rollouts to follow shortly.
