The existing Hyundai Ioniq 5 was launched in India over three years ago. The eSUV is now set to receive a mid-life update. This includes several cosmetic and functional overhauls, the most notable change being an 84kWh battery pack (top-spec version).
This spy shot shows the Ioniq 5 facelift with a new alloy design. Since the model is already launched globally, we know and can expect certain specs and features to make way in India. The Ioniq 5 is longer by 20mm, going up to 4,655mm from 4,635mm. Other dimensions remain unchanged. However, the global version gets a NACS port, allowing access to Tesla Superchargers (USA), the first for a non-American brand. Furthermore, there are two variants on offer – 63kWh and 84kWh. Fast charge times stand at 20 minutes (10 to 80 per cent) via a 250kW DC charger for both battery packs. The eSUV gets four drive modes, viz. Eco, Normal, Sports, and Snow.
Internally, the Ioniq 5 Facelift gets eight-way powered driver’s seat with lumbar support, 60/40 split rear seats, 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, conveniently positioned wireless charging pad, dual-zone climate control, tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment, and OTA updates. Other features include Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA2), Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) with steering wheel haptic feedback, Parking Distance Warning – Reverse and Forward, and blind spot monitor.
With respect to safety, the Ioniq 5 Facelift gets bodyside reinforcements, Electronic Shift Lock System and Ignition Key Interlock, anti-theft system with panic alarm, front and rear discs, ESC, Traction Control, VSM, TPMS, eight airbags, power window lock-out, and child safety locks.
Mechanically, the Ioniq 5 Facelift gets a single PMS motor setup (RWD) with optional dual motors (AWD). While the former churns out 221.91bhp and 350Nm, the latter AWD version churns out 315.61bhp and 605Nm. Claimed driving ranges stand at 394.28km (63kWh, RWD), 511.77km (84kWh, RWD), and 466.70km (84kWh, AWD). The base 63kWh version only gets a single motor setup. What variants India will get remains unknown for now.
