Honda recently pulled the wraps off the fifth-generation CR-V. The comprehensively redesigned crossover was unveiled in the US and is set to go on sale soon with a host of new features and technologies. The new CR-V also gets a turbocharged engine for the first time.
Design wise, the new CR-V looks more aggressive than before, thanks to crisp and sharp front-end design elements like the wing-shaped LED DRLs and wide, muscular fenders.
The long hood, longer wheelbase, short rear overhang and dual exhausts give the 2017 CR-V a fresh appearance. It also gets signature Honda LED headlights and a grille that lowers aerodynamic drag.
The crossover features uprated aluminium alloy wheels (17 or 18 inches) on all trims and narrower A-pillars for improved visibility. Adding convenience is a Honda-first powered tailgate.
The 2017 CR-V in EX and higher trims gets a turbocharged 1.5-litre 4-cylinder engine that makes 190bhp. Additionally, there’s the familiar 2.4-litre unit mated to a CVT.
Inside the 2017 model, the cabin is more spacious and features upgraded materials throughout, including a new soft-touch instrument panel and more intricately stitched seats.
Feature list includes a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, remote engine start, dual-zone climate control, an electric parking brake and electrically adjustable driver and front passenger seat.
In terms of safety aids, there’s collision mitigation braking with forward collision warning, pedestrian sensing capability, lane departure warning and adaptive cruise control.
The new CR-V also gets lane assist, blind spot information, rear cross traffic monitor and auto high beam headlights, besides several airbags and ABS with EBD. The 2017 CR-V will be produced at three plants in North America - in Ohio, Ontario and Indiana using domestic and globally sourced parts.
