2014 Toyota Corolla spotted testing in India

Toyota recently unveiled the all new Corolla which is now on sale in the European markets. The car has now been spotted testing in India for the first time, indicating a possible launch in the first quarter of 2014.

The car is based on the Corolla Furia concept car showcased at the Detroit motor show in January, but is a more toned down version of the facelift featured in the US market. The front gets a square design with sharp lines for the bumper, grille and the hood. The blacked-out headlamps and light cluster feature LED inserts blend into the sloping bonnet which also features prominent creases on the sides.

The European spec car also features aggressive wrap around tail lamps while resembling its elder sibling, the Camry. The sportiness is carried forward by the bulging wheel arches and the sharp wedge on the C-pillar.  The car will get refreshed interiors with two tone interiors and better use of fabric and plastic. The dashboard lighting will feature blue LEDs along with a completely redesigned instrument panel.

The new Corolla will continue with the 1.8-litre petrol mill and the 1.4-litre diesel mill all of which will be re-tuned to improve efficiency and performance figures. There is also a possibility of having a seven-speed automatic CVT and an all-new electric power steering system.

The Corolla will go up against the Chevy Cruze and the Hyundai Elantra in the D segment where it will try and make its mark, which it is currently struggling to do despite being one of the most sold cars in the world. it is also likley that this car is doing component tetsing in the country as Toyota had previously announced that it will focus on the developement of Etios twins till the end of next year.
