1. Driving Experience On-road
Feels strong and heavy, like a proper truck, not a car High seating position = excellent road visibilityVery stable at highway speeds
Not very smooth over potholes when empty (rear leaf suspension is stiff) Turning radius is big → city parking can feel difficult
Off-road This is where Hilux shines: Great ground clearance Strong 4x4 system Excellent traction in mud, sand, hills Built like a tank You feel confident anywhere Comfort Front seats comfortable for long drives Rear seats a bit upright and stiff
Ride becomes smoother when carrying load 2. Performance Depends on engine (most common: 2.4L or 2.8L diesel) 2.8 Diesel Power: ~200+ PS Very strong torque Easy overtakes Pulls heavy loads easilyGood for highways + off-road Mileage (real-world) City: 9–11 km/l Highway: 12–14 km/l Off-road/heavy load: 7–9 km/l It’s not for fuel saving — it’s for strength.
3. Servicing & Maintenance Cost Toyota reliability is a big plus. Service intervalEvery 10,000 km or 6 months
Approx service cost (India estimate) Regular service: ₹6,000–10,000 Major service: ₹15,000–25,000 Parts are durable but slightly expensive Overall: cheaper than most other big pickups/SUVs. 4. Pros Extremely reliable engine Very strong build quality Excellent off-road capability Long life (easily 3–5 lakh km if maintained) Good resale value Tough suspension for bad roads
Low breakdown chances 5. Cons Expensive purchase price Low mileage Large size → tough in city traffic Stiff rear ride when empty Parking can be difficult Not luxury like Fortuner or SUV
6. Common Issues Owners Face Nothing major, but: Rear suspension feels bouncy when empty Brake pads wear faster if driven hard Big tires are costly to replace Diesel quality matters a lot DPF clogging if only short city drives (in BS6 models) 7. Smart Maintenance Tips (very important) Engine careAlways use good quality diesel Change engine oil every 8–10k km (don’t delay)Use Toyota genuine filters Turbo health After long/high-speed driving, let engine idle 1–2 minutes before turning off Protects turbo life Suspension Check leaf springs and bushings regularly Grease joints if used off-road Tires Rotate every 8–10k kmKeep correct pressure (big tires wear fast if ignored) DPF (BS6 models) Take car on highway once a week Drive 15–20 minutes at 60–80 km/h to clean DPF Underbody If used in mud/water/off-road → wash underbody immediately Prevents rust Battery Big diesel needs strong battery Replace before 4 years Who should buy Hilux? Perfect if: You love off-roading Need heavy-duty work vehicle Travel rural/bad roads Want long-term reliability Not ideal if: Mostly city driving Want luxury comfort Need high mileage

A Reliable and Practical Pickup Truck
I have been driving this pickup truck for the last 7 years, and it has been outstanding in every aspect. I have been a die-hard fan of this pickup since my college days, and when I bought it in 2019, it was truly value for money at that time.
It is a perfect, practical vehicle with excellent load-carrying capacity. As a civil contractor, I regularly use it for my work, and it has never disappointed me. I also love to travel, and I have never felt any discomfort during long drives. The ride is smooth, and this pickup truck is very well-proportioned overall.
