MG Comet EV

The Comet is available in a single powertrain with a 17.3kWh battery. This is paired with a motor that makes 41bhp and 110Nm of torque. The electric hatchback gets three driving modes - Eco, Normal, and Sport.

Positives:

• The motor is very silent and capable enough to drive up steep slopes or inclines, too. Thus, the Comet doesn’t roll backward, making it easy for new car buyers and mostly new learners. Also, 200km of driving range is good enough for city use or to run errands. 

Negatives:

• This car is built mainly for the city and doesn’t inspire confidence to drive amongst big trucks on the highway or even catch up with fast-moving cars at triple-digit speeds. Also, at higher speeds and over bad surfaces, the ride feels harsh with the jolts being heard inside.

• This unconventional and quirky tall-boy car is under three meters long.
• Though the design is unusual, the illuminated logo, light bar, small bonnet, aero wheel covers, and the red LED bar on the tailgate make it eye-catching.
• The car also comes in funky colour options that make it eye-catching.
• Buyers also get the option to customise the car.
• The dashboard design is clean and minimalistic and uses screens to access all the information and some basic controls too. 

Features missing:

• The Comet misses some features that are typically found in cars at its price point, especially in the top-spec Plush version. These features include a glovebox, wireless charger, and fast-charging support. Most notably, the Comet has only two doors, while most other cars in its class have four.  

• The Comet comes standard with a suite of safety features, including dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with a reversing camera, and a speed- and impact-sensing auto-lock function for the doors.
• However, do note that this car has not been crash tested and we do not have the crash test scores.

Like the exterior, the Comet’s interior continues to be unconventional with its design and layout.

• It’s a good cabin for accommodating four adults and won’t feel cramped up due to the nice ambience and good sense of space.
• Then, there’s the use of good quality materials, and the fit and finish and panel gaps are consistent.
• The two-spoke steering with its controls is unique in design.
• MG has incorporated two screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment unit as one unit with a good chunk of information.

Negatives:

• The seats are slim and placed close to each other depicting a tight shoulder room. In the second row, the large front seats restrict outward front visibility for the occupants and it’s not easy for elderly people to step out.
