The Versa is a good choice. My Versa DX2 is running well and proving to be a utilitarian cut above a typical small or mid-size car. It is a class vehicle for city use – very good gear ratios. The engine has very good power, even with big load and the AC is very good. However, its mileage is a bit lower and the ‘look’ is unimpressive – in fact, a bit ‘blunt’. Still, Versa has quite a few ‘scores’ over others like being a ‘true family car with higher seating capacity’, comfortable spacing and the ‘secured’ feeling of a tall & wide, sturdy vehicle. I really wonder why this car is so uncommon to see on road!

Versa is an ideal vehicle to accommodate at least 8 persons. The vehicle appears big. However, it is just a few inches longer than a Zen or a ‘B’ segment car. It is big from inside and small from outside. The turning radius is very small. Driving and parking in traffic is not difficult. It is a car, it is a MUV. In all respects, it is great.

Great engine, pick-up & AC, good gear ratios, very comfortable spacing, easy to drive and manage.Sub-average suspension, bit bumpy ride, average mileage.

The Maruti Versa is truly a versatile automobile. It has all that a typical Indian family needs:- Spacious, Value for money, Easy handling & parking, Twin A/C Blowers for the Indian summers, etc. In fact it is a wonder that we don't see too many Versa's on the road. One negative for potential buyers is the Van-like shape that does not appeal to many people. Looks aside the Versa is a great buy and at the current price it is unbeatable value. The often quoted "poor milage" is actually not true as the Versa does return 10 KMs in City driving and that is quite on par with other cars such as the Esteem, Ikon, Aveo, Optra, etc. So go ahead and take the plunge, invest in a Versa - your family will love it. I believe the Versa advertisement, "the joy of traveling together". :-)

Great value for money, Easy handling, People mover in reasonable comfortLow mileage (10KM), Poor looks,

have been using a versa DX since sept 2003. have done 50,000 km till march 2007. lots of mid range trips from delhi to chail, barog, agra, ranthambhor, nainital, kasauli, paonta sahib, haridwar, rishikesh, dehradun, mussourie, etc. but the longest was delhi- udaipur, 670 km nonstop, in about 11 hours. absolute treat to drive the versa specially between 120-140kmph. good and commanding riding position, very sensitive steering, excellent pickup. regularly raced with safaris, scorpios and lancers on NH 1 and NH2. the versa can hold its own up to 100 kmph before loosing out. the biggest limitation on the flip side is the mileage which varies from anything about 10 kmpl to 13.5 kmpl depending on driving conditions. capacity of a big car to cruise endlessly. did a quick stretch between udaipur and chittorgarh of around 105 km in 50 minutes flat without batting an eyelid. my daughter prefers to take a blanket and cuddle up in the rear seat when i usually drive on long trips. she actually prefers the versa to our house. maybe it does feel like a home on wheels. we are currently trying to pick our next car and the choice invariable boils down to a versa DX, maybe a DX2 this time. at the cost at which it comes along with the standard features like power/ this and that and a hurricane type single ac very few cars can come close. this time i'm only waiting for some vibrant colours before i buy one again.acceleration, high ground clearance, space, smooth, turning radiusmileage

A few incidents to testify the greatness of this car:

1.05 June 2005 - heavy rain - eleven guests with full luggage in tow arrive for a wedding - Qualis can just accommodate the luggage inside - eleven guests transported in Versa in A/C comfort to the "Mandap" - no signs of strain on the vehicle

      2. Surat-Dumas Road - 1.5 to 2ft water at several points during 2006 monsoon - average cars fail to clear the puddles - Versa does it effortlessly

3.Surat floods 2006 - car parked in 2 ft water - nothing happens to the car except a stuck clutch plate - freed without removing th gear box.

The overall comfort this car offers is as much as a Scorpio but at roughly 60% of the cost.Do not also forget that this is Japanese technology.

With such low sales, the car continues to be on Maruti's list of vehicles..so do not worry about it being phased out.The Zen was a very good seller but yet was stopped.Same with the old Santro.

One small tip for those complaining about the mileage - get the throttle body serviced every 15000 kms. Also check the idle rpm of the car at normal operating engine temperature with A/C and lights off - should be in the region of 800-900.

As I have mentioned in my earlier review, I am back with my Vashi to Goa experience to share with you. I have started the journey at 7.00 am from Vashi and reached Mapusa, Goa by 6.00 pm. Total traveled distance was 1425 km from home to Goa and Back.

I have planned to keep the journey in three different driving ways. From Mumbai to Goa is the first leg, inside Goa, for sight seeing was the second leg and return from Goa was the third leg. The result was fantastic with four adult and one small kid with 60 kgs of luggage.

In the first leg, I have kept the speed at 80-90 kmph @ close to 3000 rpm. With four/five different stop for refreshment, I have completed the journey of 575 km in 11 hrs with a milage of 15.2 kmpl.
Inside Goa, the local sight seeing was done as per the speed limit given, as there was a huge police checking for speeding. So the mileage check for this 275 km is included in the over all coverage.

But while coming back, I have decided to break the journey at Ratnagiri, to make the journey comfortable to my aged parents. We have started at 12 pm from Mapusa to cover 610 kms. I have kept the speed limit at 60-70 kmph @ below 2200 rpm. With a lunch halt at Sawantwadi, we have reached Ratnagiri city by 7.30 pm. Next morning we have started at 9.30 am and with three refreshment break we have reached Vashi at 5.30 pm. During this drive of 610 km, the mileage was about 18.5 kmpl. The over all mileage was about 15.5 and total distance covered was 1425 km.

To check the max mileage possible, I have taken this vehicle for a short trip to Pune, via expressway. Keeping the rpm below 1800 at a speed of 55-60 kmph, I have clicked a mileage of above 21 kmpl in this vehicle with only two occupants.

All these check were done without operating the Air conditioning. If any one having any dilemma about the mileage of this car, please be comfortable. This is your vehicle and you are best person to judge the driving condition and the vehicle. Next time if you have time to travel and want save more money, please follow this driving conditions, (mainly rpm and change the gear at recommended speed only). You will get better mileage. And about the vehicle, I have already talked about it, this is a gem of a vehicle if you know your way of use.

Next visit I made was from Vashi to Ratnagiri and back. This 700 km drive was made with a night halt at Ratnagiri and back via Ganpatiphule. In side road from ratnagiri to GAnpatiphule is a state highway and road was also bad, so speed limit was in between 30-50 kmph. During this drive I kept the AC on with repeatating on/off mode. The speed limit was between 60-70 kmph @ below 2200 rpm. The mileage was 16.25lmpl, which I feel quite a good avarage. Thats all for now.

Wish your journey more comfortable, safe and economical, the fuel price is killing.

I have taken about 2 yrs to upgrade from 800 to my next car, Versa DX2. I have gone through every site and comments made by every users of every car, also gone through all the car magazines available in the newsstand. I found one thing, there are very few comments on this car and few people care about this car.

My first criteria was space, second, price limit of five lacks, and third, reliability (Service, maintenance, consumption). When I put all these together, I always found, the search ends with either Wagon-R or Swift. But I was looking for more space, where my wife, mother and my child can sleep well, while touring from Navi Mumbai to Goa (575 Kms, 10-11 hrs.). I was looking for driving ease, where I can sit up-right and can see more distance on the road. I was looking for more than a simple small hatchback. I have taken test drives on all the available small hatches on road, not once, but twice and some time more for some vehicles.

However, I was delighted first time when I drove Versa DX. It was a nice experience. For people like me who keeps an eye on RPM not on the Speedo, it is like a tiger on the road. Very smooth (Maruti does provide refinement of engine), and strong on the road. It keeps her wheels steady at very high speed.

I have taken a short trip of 600 km (Vashi to Shirdi via Chakan and back via Nasik) with in 4 days of delivery (825 kms on odometer till date) and it is a complete delight. Car was packed with my parents, my sis and bro-in law and my wife and total 3 children of 5-8 yrs. I have driven the car at a range of 60-90 kmph and got an mileage of 15-16 with out Acs. I believe this is a good average before the first servicing. If I am not wrong, after first servicing it will be more.

I am planning for a 1500 kms trip, soon after the first servicing and will let you the details. Only one thing, which could have been better, is the headlamp. On high ways with std. light, you may find trouble, if not trained to drive on highways at night. I am trying to find out a solution without tampering the std electrical system in place.

In one line, do not compare this car with Innova or Tavera or even Sumo, this is a car different from any specification, but very useful if you know your usage. This is not Swift, so do not race, this is not Safari, so do not surface, this is a car like your old Zen or new Wagon-R with more space inside (40%), taking only 10% more space out side (at parking).

This is excellent car. I have it for last 5 years (DX2). Driven for about 43000 Kms. Atleast 28 trips from Mumbai - Goa and back. As rightly said...this car can't be compared with any other car in India. With this price and what it offers...just above all other cars. Only thing what I observed dislike the review with  I never got average above 13km/Lit with or without AC in on highways in my 43000kms of driving of Versa DX2.

Even family likes it soo much that today we have booked another Versa DX2 BSIII.

My review on my 1st Versa is published by Maruti on it's Review Page by customers for Versa. That has got all the details of my experince on this car.

im so surprise that maruti is not making new model of versa.atleast change out side look yaar change headlights make it crystal view..............im using this car from 1 year its very nice car its look big from out side but once u seat on driving seat  its like wagon-r only.i think maruti have to make improve version now .and yes why maruti is not planning for diesel version im waiting for it...........

fuel economy:- 10 in city 12 -13 on highway

comfort:- good for 6 peoples i think not for 8 persons
