About the ReviewerDriven ForUnder 500 km10 - Roller Coaster Ride with my Mahindra XEV9E.My search for the ideal SUV finally came to an end when I test-drove the Mahindra XEV 9E in January 2026. For nearly one and a half years, I had been researching and evaluating various vehicles before finding one that met my expectations. The test drive convinced me that this was the vehicle I had been looking for, and I booked my Mahindra XEV 9E on January 28, 2026. I received delivery of my dream car in the last week of February 2026. Naturally, I was thrilled and extremely proud of my purchase. However, due to my busy professional schedule, I could not enjoy the vehicle as much as I had hoped. Even after several months of ownership, I had driven only about 2,000 kilometres. In May 2026, I finally planned a family road trip with my XEV 9E. A few days before the trip, I had to travel to Kondapur, Hyderabad. While driving at a modest speed of approximately 20 km/h on a reasonably good road, I suddenly noticed a rapid drop in the rear tyre pressure. Before I could fully understand what was happening, the vehicle came to a complete halt. The situation was stressful, especially in the peak summer heat. With the assistance of a nearby tyre shop owner, I replaced the damaged tyre with the spare wheel. Upon inspection, I was shocked to discover a crack of nearly two inches in the middle of a tyre. Since I had no idea how such damage could occur under normal driving conditions, I immediately took the vehicle to a Mahindra service center. Unfortunately, my experience there was disappointing. The service manager initially responded in a rude and dismissive manner, suggesting that the damage might have been caused intentionally or due to my negligence. I found this assumption unreasonable. Why would anyone spend nearly ₹30 lakh on a new vehicle only to intentionally damage it and visit a service center? The excitement and pride I felt about owning the XEV 9E quickly began to fade. Eventually, the service center agreed to send the tyre to the manufacturer for inspection. The process took nearly a week, after which the manufacturer reported that there was no manufacturing defect in the tyre. At the time of purchase, I had opted for comprehensive insurance through Mahindra. Since electric vehicles involve expensive components and repairs, I wanted complete peace of mind. I even included tyre insurance by paying an additional premium of approximately ₹4,000. However, when the insurance process began, I was informed that I would need to pay nearly ₹20,000 for tyre replacement. What puzzled me was that the same tyre appeared to be available online for around ₹12,000. I am still trying to understand why the replacement cost increases so significantly when insurance is involved. Are customers being protected by insurance, or is the insurance system primarily protecting itself? I would appreciate insights from insurance experts regarding the difference in pricing, excluding GST considerations. My previous vehicle was a Maruti Ritz, which I owned and maintained for nearly 15 years. Remarkably, I experienced my first tyre puncture only after two years of ownership. Throughout that period, I consistently used MRF tyres and had complete confidence in their quality and reliability. Unfortunately, my experience with the tyres fitted on the XEV 9E has shaken that confidence. The tyre failure occurred at just 20 km/h on a city road. I consider myself fortunate that the incident did not occur during a family trip or at highway speeds, where the consequences could have been far more serious. During my discussions with other vehicle owners and tyre professionals, I came across multiple concerns related to certain MRF R18 tyre variants. While I am not qualified to comment on the technical reasons, this experience has certainly affected my trust in the product. More importantly, it has left my family anxious and concerned about safety. I upgraded from a ₹6 lakh vehicle that served me faithfully for 15 years, expecting greater comfort, reliability, and safety from a ₹30 lakh premium electric SUV. Today, I find myself questioning whether this vehicle will inspire the same long-term confidence. I believe Mahindra should proactively evaluate the performance and reliability of the tyres supplied with its vehicles. Customer feedback from service centers, warranty claims, and discarded tyre records could provide valuable insights into recurring issues. Such analysis would help identify patterns and improve customer safety and satisfaction. My intention is not to criticize for the sake of criticism, but to share a genuine ownership experience and encourage improvements that benefit all customers. My Ownership Ratings (Based on 2,400 km of Driving) • Mahindra XEV 9E: ★★★★★ (5/5) • Mahindra Sales Team: ★★★★☆ (4/5) • Mahindra Service Team: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) o Service managers need better customer empathy and communication skills. o Tyre replacement took nearly two weeks. • Mahindra Insurance: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) o Slow response and lack of clarity during claim processing. • MRF Tyres: ★☆☆☆☆ (1/5) o A disappointing experience that significantly impacted my confidence in the product. Despite this unfortunate incident, I continue to appreciate the vehicle's design, technology, comfort, and driving experience. My hope is that Mahindra and its partners will address such concerns proactively so that customers can enjoy the ownership experience with complete peace of mind.Rating Parameters(Out of 5)5
