Top features of the Mitsubishi Outlander

-    Mitsubishi Outlander will return with a petrol engine only.

Mitsubishi has officially opened the registration book for the third generation Outlander in India. The SUV was first posted on their official website last August and now we expect an impending Indian debut in the coming few months. When reintroduced in India, the Outlander will join the Montero and Pajero Sport in Mitsubishi’s Indian portfolio.

Redesigned exterior

In its third generation now, the Outlander introduced the new “Dynamic Shield” design philosophy that will be seen on all the future vehicles from the Japanese carmaker. The styling is a lot sharper now and more aerodynamic than before due to the imposing chrome-laden grille. The grille is said to have reduced the drag coefficient by seven per cent. The revised headlights are sharper and have a full-LED setup with LED DRLs. There are seven body colours to choose from. 

Dimensions

The SUV measures 4695mm X 1810mm X 1710mm in dimension with a wheelbase of 2670mm and a ground clearance of 190mm. The seven-seater tips the scale at 1602 kilograms and has a fuel tank of 60 litres. It sits on 16-inch stylish alloy wheels wrapped in 215/70 section tyres. 

Feature laden cabin

On the insides, Mitsubishi has added a bit more refinement to the cabin. The Outlander will be laden with features like leather upholstery, electrically powered seat with heating and height adjustment, seatbelt pre-tensioners, ISOFIX, and sunroof. The sound system is a 710W Rockford Fosgate Premium unit with 6.1-inch display and a USB port.

The off-roader will also come laden with dual zone climate control, keyless entry with push start, rain sensing wipers, and electronic parking brake and power steering. Safety wise there will be seven airbags as standard with ABS and EBD, active stability control (ASC), hill start assist (HSA). 

Powertrain:

The Outlander will be powered by the latest iteration of the MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve Timing and Electronic Control system) gasoline engine. It would the 2.4-litre four-cylinder motor with an output of 164bhp and 220Nm. The transmission would be a six-speed CVT with paddle shifters. The 4WD system will be standard with ECO mode.

Competition 

Once introduced in India, the Outlander will lock horns with the likes of the Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson and the Jeep Compass. The return of the SUV with a fresh appeal could help the carmaker garner some positive sales figures in the country. Expected pricing for the new Outlander is around Rs 25 lakhs.
