Volvo's Polestar 2 teased as brand’s first pure electric vehicle

Polestar – the newfound carmaker which formerly was the performance division for Volvo – has teased their second upcoming vehicle called the 2. The 2 is the first fully-electric model after the long-range hybrid Polestar 1. The 1 is slated to hit production line in late-2019. The 2, on the other hand, will be revealed in the coming weeks, says Polestar. 

Details divulged by the Gothenburg-based carmaker points to the fact that the 2 is a ‘four-door fastback’ with 400bhp and 300miles (around 480kilometres) of range. The 2 will also celebrate the world debut of the new Google Android HMI, which is, in fact, the in-car version of Google Assistant. Interestingly, Polestar boldly claims that the 2 will be sold in the Tesla Model 3 price range. It will be available on a subscription basis when it goes on sale perhaps in 2020.

Although details are scarce at the moment, the 2 is likely to take its inspiration from Volvo 40.2 Concept (pictured here). If you remember, Volvo showcased the 40.1 and 40.2 concepts in 2016 as a new design direction, from which the latter spawned the all-new XC40. The Polestar 2 powertrain details aren’t available at the moment, but if it uses the same CMA platform as the 1, we can expect the electric drive of the 1 to power the 2 as well. 

Polestar says the 2 will break cover in “coming weeks”. So expect a digital reveal and a public debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The reveal, however, will happen only after many teasers highlighting the special features of the 2. So keep watching this space for more information.
