Chevrolet has hinted to reporters that the company could be readying a track version of the mid-engine Corvette race car. This information was put out even as Chevy is currently running a teaser campaign using spy shots of the road-going version of the same car.
This new piece of information seems to be in keeping with what Larbre Racing Team Principal Jacques Leconte had recently hinted at. The team owner said that they would be running a Ligier prototype in the WEC LMP2 class this year in place of the C7.R art car that the team ran in LMGTE class in 2017. This was only because the C8.R race car is still under development.
The automotive fraternity has already learnt from leaked CAD images of the road-going car as to how some components like the engine, transaxle, and the rear sub-frame (on which the engine is fitted) will look like. And the fact that a track version is being developed keeps one guessing as to how the engineers will tweak the existing system even further.
But for now, sources are salivating at the thought of the new C8 Corvette getting more than 850bhp via a 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 drivetrain. Stay tuned for the details in the months to come.
