BMW to reveal new-gen X5 later in 2018

- To be built on the new CLAR platform

- Architecture will be electric ready

- Conceptual reveal this year, production in 2019

BMW group, in its Annual General Meeting in Munich yesterday, revealed its plan to expedite the arrival of the new BMW X5. Although the current generation car is only four years old, the new-gen X5 is being spawned two years earlier in an attempt to bring the BMW X5 at par with the competition.

The new BMW X5 will be revealed as a concept by the end of 2018 and should go into production by the end of 2019. The new X5 will follow BMW’s new flagship, the X7, which is slated to go into production as an MY19 car. For BMW, 2018 is the year of the SUVs with the new-gen X3 and the all-new X2 already in and the X4 slated for the summer. 

The new-gen X5 will be built on the CLAR platform which has been designed to house electric powertrains as well. Because BMW will want this generation, the G05 X5, to last six years, that is 2025, by which time, electric cars are expectes to be dominant sellers in all the developed markets across the globe. For now, that is until the gasoline era goes on, the X5 will have the 48V mild-hybrid platform to work with.
