4th-gen Fiat Punto to debut globally in 2018

The recently discontinued Fiat Punto has been spied in South America. The spied test mule wears a heavy camouflage, indicating a revamped cosmetic upgrade.

Globally launched in the year 2005, Fiat Punto made its way in the Indian market by late 2009. Although the car is dying a slow death, the manufacturers have tried to fuel the flame with timely cosmetic refreshments. Recently Fiat pulled the plug on the Punto in the European, South African and South American markets to make way for their other hatch backs, although, a recent report states that the manufacturers will bring back the revamped hatchback with the same Punto badge.

The new Punto will not carry same old platform developed jointly by Opel and Fiat together, but will be based on the Fiat designed SCCS platform. The new vehicle is expected to undergo drastic cosmetic changes on the exterior and the manufacturers will also improve the interior by adding premium features.

The fourth-generation hatchback will make its way to the Indian shore in late 2018. The current Punto on sale in India received a mildly tuned ‘90hp’ variant and crossover in its line-up, yet manufacturers saw only a three digit sale number. When it is launched in the Indian market, the new Fiat Punto will continue its rivalry with the Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Volkswagen Polo and the Toyota Etios Liva.
