Nissan has updated the Micra for the 2018 model year. The Japanese hatchback now gets additional features as standard with a revised variant line-up. Although there are no cosmetic updates, the Micra has now became one of the safest cars in its segment. So let’s take a deeper look into the 2018MY Micra if you are considering buying one.
What’s good about it?
With the 2018MY update, the Micra now gets dual front airbags as standard along with rear parking sensors, seat belt warning and speed warning device. The XV trim also gets a rearview camera and turn indicators on OVRMs along with a roof-mounted rear spoiler.
Nissan has also added a 6.2-inch touchscreen with navigation and smartphone connectivity (in the XV trim) as a part of the update. Even NissanConnect is available but only in the higher XV variant.The new touch-screen features bring
the Micra at par with its competition in terms of the feature list. The B-segment hatchback already gets a push-button start, power windows, auto-folding mirrors, keyless entry and all the bells and whistles. It offers a smooth CVT transmission as standard with the petrol engine while the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel is a tried and tested motor that offers a good mix of power and fuel economy.
What’s not so good?
The Micra has been around for quite some time now. Its competition has moved ahead in terms of generation change while the Micra hasn’t even received a proper facelift in a while now. Even though it gets the V-Motion design, it looks dated considering the new-gen Micra is already on sale in international market. Apart from that, Nissan’s brand presence and after-sales service have limited the Micra’s opportunities in the Indian market. There have been no mechanical changes made to the updated version either.
Best variant to buy?
The fully-loaded XV trim is the best bet. It has all the features on offer and is available in both petrol and diesel engine options with a choice between manual and automatic transmissions.
