Been dying to write my own review ever since I first read a review here. I have been saving up for my swift since the beginning of 2007. Picked it up on 19th November from Hissar - (CSD sales).

I had only read about the Swift diesel and the 99.9% positive reviews gave me the courage to buy one without actually test driving one! (As if buying a swift wasn't hard enough - getting a test drive is like asking a Rottweiler for his bone).

Anyway, for all of you planning to buy a SWIFT Diesel - GO RIGHT AHEAD! It's an amazing car! I had to drive it around 180 KMS from Hissar to Gurgaon and both my brother and I enjoyed the drive to the hilt.

It's been 3 and a half months and my car has done 6000+ kms and I've given it for its second service recently. I'm a careful driver and make sure I don't push the car unnecessarily - It's giving me an average of between 18.5 and 20 kmpl in the city(Delhi and NCR), using the AC/with the heater to demist the windscreen at times.

I try and drive at 60KMH and also shift to 5th gear as I touch the 60 KMH mark. I do push the car to 80 - 100 KMH on the highway between Delhi and Gurgaon, but thats not for long stretches. The best part - or in some cases unnerving part is that you can't feel the speed that you're driving at - you touch 80KMH without realising it, thinking all the while that you're doing 60(I used to drive a ZEN earlier - in that you can feel the road when you're passing 60)! The car has an amazing reserve of power which youcan use to overtake irratating road hogs. Just press the acc pedal when you want to overtake and the turbo kicks it at just the right time - whoooooooshh is the awesome sound you hear from the engine - i sometimes turn my radio down just to hear that beautiful sound - it's pure music to my ears! :D

      Now for the serious review:

The car is well built and the doors have the typical heavy car door sound - they go THUNK when you shut them. The interior is quite spacious - in front. The dashboard is well laid out and is neat to look at - the instrument console (speedometer- fuel guage, temp guage, warning lights) is easily visible. The rear seats according to my brother are quite comfy - there's decent leg room for the rear passenger even with the front seats pushed almost back.

The only thing missing in the rear seats in terms of comfort are teh rear head rests - the LDi doesn't have them! It doesn't bother much me since I'm the one who'll be driving most of the time! :D Another point that I'd like to bring up about the rear seats is to counter what some reviewers have said about the sloping roof cramping the rear seat occupants. - According to me, it is an optical illusion that the rear seat occupants are cramped due to the sloping roof - the only reason being that the front of the roof is actually quite high - the head room in front is more than adequate for a man in a turban to sit comfortably. so by the time the roof tapers to the rear - it's actually at a normal height - Hats off to the designers for that!

The turning radius is qreally good too - compared to the Fiat Palio 1.9D (i used to drive my sisters car a lot) it's a dream!

The bigger wheels tend to absorb more potholes that the Gurgaon roads have to offer the daily commuter!

The car is broader than what it seems, and takes a bit of getting used to - ADVICE: install the Left ORVM immediately upon purchase of the car- and USE IT! I've heard people say they don't use it because they don't want to break them in traffic - I feel its better to break a mirror than to break your car!!! In the swift the central rear view mirror doesn't offer too much visibility - so the outside mirrors really help - besides good drivers use these mirrors effectively!

The boot is not as spacious as some cars in this category - however, one can easily pack 3 air bags for a weekend trip OR a large suitcase. I feel it's enough- after all if you want to move house - you'll hire a truck won't you!

The LDi doesn't come with a tachometer, body coloured door handles, power windows, day/night RVM, rear seat headrests and shiny silver garnishing(which fades off) on the door handles, AC vents, central console and gear knob. Left ORVM, day night mirror. You don't get wheel caps either. You have to shell out 30K more for all of the above in the form of the VDi.  I feel this is not really necessary and can be installed for much less from outside. I do feel that Maruti should give a day/night mirror left ORVM with the LDi too - combined they cost just about 3000/- why the stingyness Maruti?

There are enough cubbyholes to hold water and beer cans - not to mention your CD's etc.

I'm extremely happy with my car - the mileage being the best part - I fill a full tank of diesel for around Rs. 1030/- which lasts me more than 600kms, compared to my colleagues & friends who fill a full tank of petrol for around 1700/- which lasts them around 500kms! :D

I think the LDi is the best diesel hatchback in terms of value for money in the country today - The other day I stopped aside a Skoda Fabia and out of curiosity asked the owner how much it was for on road - 8.25 came the reply! another driver i asked said 8.5! I guess the fabia is preMIUM and all that - but the LDi - its just "yumYUM!"

Hope you all liked this review - it's the first time im writing on any website! Cheers and till next time - Drive safe, wear your seatbelts - and Keep your eyes on the road and your hands upon the Wheel!

      17-June 08.

Ive done 17000 kms in my Swift and shes still rocking! still gives me an amazing avg of 17+ kmpl in city (AC on 99%). Had an alignment prob - pulled left badly - but APRA autos - Gurgaon sorted it out! Took her to Mc leodganj - she EATS the hills! Amazing pullling power! Swift ROCKS

14-AugustAwesome fuel economy, killer looks - unmatched in segment, great handling/driving position. AC,nil accessories, no hub caps and left ORVM

Can anyone suggest me and help me ... I am planning to Buy this month .. which sould I go for SWIFT or RITZ (VDi)

I drive atleast 120 Kms per day,

I have read lots of Positive reviews of Swift VDi, Please help me in choosing in between the two.

Updating My review again on....... 11th Nov 2009 ....

On 20th July I had proudly and happily written that I had purchased a Fiat Punto .. it was a great experience for first few days only ... and then the real problem started all the tyres started wearing and at 5500 Kms theywere totally weared .. Fiat changed the tyres twice once at the dealers work shop and after another 3500 Kms at FIAT plant at Pune... I was able to send the vehicle to Plant as i live in Pune what about the others ? .... even after two tyre changes and three repairs the problem is still very much there ... I am totaly upset with the way FIAT deals with its customers ..... Now I am regretting the decision that I opted for FIAT vehicle .... Should had gone for a TRUSTED brand ...... Thats it FOLKs hope this will help you......

I bought my Swift VDI on Feb 20th 2007. Before that i was in a dilemma whether to buy Swift or Hyundai Getz. After 3 months of my inability to decide, i was blessed with the arrival of Swift Vdi (diesel). I immediatly went for a test drive and WOW i was impressed. I was pleasently shocked by the Vdi, it had the best pickup. Once you cross 2rpm the turbo charger kicks in and you can feel the car take off. Swift has the best smooth looks around, in its segment (the rest are just so routine).

The sales guy bragged about very good mileage and all that, but seriously i never believed him for a sec (I was a little doubtful whether the car would still be so peppy after a few months or years). Anyway i loved the car and that was what mattered. I work in chennai and i travel an averege of 45 km per day in jam packed city traffic (only 1-2 gears). You will not believe that i get an amazing mileage of 15.8-16.2 in city. Every month or so i make an occasional trip to Bangalore. The highway sees me rip my swift at around 140 km per hr (Its sooo smooth).Yeah i do wish that the engine could have been more silent but cmon who's paying attention to the sound when your car is so charged up. My father owns a Ford Fiesta and a hyundai Accent. My swift is way more spacious than the accent.Unlike other cars i feel that the seating and the ride comfort of the car is excellent. when on the inside i donot feel that i'm in a small car at all.

Today after four months and 7600km with my Swift i can still fell that life in it when i drive it. I really wish that they would have come up with a Zdi version but i realise that the price would then be more that the next good sedan. If any of you car buyers need my advice i'd say if you are buying a car dont compromise with money and go for the lower versions cause its just not a car with out the full package. If you cannot afford i suggest you go for another model but the top version. Because once you buy your car and then feel that you should have done or bought something else then you have lost the real joy a car u like can give you. I bought my swift with ABS facility and i guess a powerful car needs ABS dont you think. Hoping that this review can be of some help to someone out there.

Beautiful looks, Excellent Fuel economy, Great Pickup, Lot of Space....and many moreA slightly noisy engine.

      Hi folks

After driving the Santro for about a year & half (before that I had a Maruti 800 for almost 20yrs)Recently I got an Swift VXI.

I had a Santro which was  a good upgrade from the Maruti 800.    I had bought it 2nd hand from a Doctor and is giving very good service   (I will be disposing it off but am gonna feel bad about it).

But the Swift is a very nice car.   I had an option of choosing between Swift VXI and Indigo LS.   My family swung in the favor of swift for its classy edge over the Indigo ( The sales staff at Wasan Motors, Mumbai were very indifferent).   Though it was a hatchback we  opted for it.

      Space
It is as wide as an Indica (I travel in a car pool were the other three cars are  Indica), the space at the rear is not as in Indica but can easily accommodate a 6 foot guy.

      Driveability
The drivability of the car is excellent.   The engine revs up beautifully.   If it was not for the tachometer (rpm), It  is difficult to know if it is running, there is no sound.  It accelerates very smoothly and response to the drivers pressure on the pedal is good.   I have driven on higher speed on turnings and there was no indication of a roll, it is very steady.   The gears change like magic.   Changing into the 5th gear while at 40 kmph is good and does not affect the performance of the engine.

      Suspension Tyres & Brakes
This one has tubeless tyres and makes the ride much more smoother.   Its grip on the road is good.    Brakes have  an ABS, and hence work like magic.   The suspension is good as the ride is smooth.

      Mileage
My car has done about 1100 Kms till date.   City driving yields a max of 9 km/litre.   May be it shall improve when it crosses 3000 kms (thats what the mannual says).   the sales man at the showroom - Ratan motors Chembur  informed before sales that it clocks 12 - 13 kms/lit.   But during the first service I was told it would be 9 - 10 max.   Maruti needs  look into the information given by its dealers, they could be misleading.

      Interiors
Its interiors are well designed and the instrument panel is attractive.   A/c is effective and needs to be regulated.   Possibly the AC climate control would be a good addition for Maruti to add as in ZXI model. I was surprised to see the black colors seat.   It goes well with the grey color of the car.

      Negetive
The front bumper is low and tends to hit the kerb while parking.  It should be higher than the kerbs.

My earlier view of the car was that it was not attractive especially for its look.   Its broad rear side was a negative.   But its performance is good.   It has kept the Maruti name high
Good pick up, nice Interiors, SpaciousPoor Mileage, AC quality not good

after about 2 months and above 2400 kms in the Odometer i am posting my first review on my Swift VDi . here are the following things i would like to share with you all.
      The Engine is quite Decent
The Power is Quite great and you will never know the diference between petrol and this one.( Good pick upp too)
      The Gearshift is also good.
The milage i get is around14-16 in city wid 95% AC on and 18-20 in highway with 40%AC on. i Put Indian Oils Normal Diesel.
Had the First free service last month and it costed me just rs580.
I feel maruti should improve the intrior with Biege color.
No keyless entry is avaible so i had to fit it from the accesory.
As the rear bootglass is small i had to put rear parking sensor for helping me reverse the car and park(it really helps).
I think its worth the Wait and if anyone is looking for it my serious suggestion is goo for it. It Really ROCKS!!!

The 1st Anniversary  Update  -  REPORTING (15,000 kms run )

around 7 months back i upgraded my tyres from 165/80  14" to   185/ 65 R 14 - Bridgestone tyres as i felt the earlier tyres lacked some road grip and the car wasnt sturdy , since the upgradation the Road grip is simply amazing and i still get 14 - 15 kmpl in city and recently i managed to get around 21 kmpl in highways after a 400 kms long journey , right now my car i 15000 km run and is still driving like a GEM , 3 free services are now exhausted and yet to do my paid service!

      Cheers,
      Sri
Good fuel efficiency , Powerful AC and good pick uppno biege interior , rear Blind spots .

Swift Zxi is a good car though not easy one to drive. There are of course situations wherein you have to rely on your driving experience/expertise to ensure it does not get bruised in heavy traffic. It is due to some visiblity constraints though I have experience of twenty six years in car driving with lot of car models in India and abroad. The quality of sheet metal used is not upto the mark. Especially on the bonnet which has got depressions after opening/closing in short time. Also I did not like the quality of gear box which is not a smooth one like the earlier Zen had. I would suggest this car to those who want to just have a car for fun and preferably a second car. No need to spend so much money on a hatchback and also not get carried away by the marketing gimmicks. Sure we expect very good cars with value for money in next year.Great styleNot great interiors expected of Rs 5.5 lac hatchback

Excellent value for money - expecially the LXI, its the basic model - and revs equally as the topliners. One can add any feature that you want to at an added cost, so you are not loaded with features that one might just do without. Astonishing fuel economy - did Delhi - Agra sector at an average speed of 90 kms with a mindblowing fuel economy of over 18 kmpl!!! The only problem I feel is the low driving position in the non adjustable drivers seat. Could be a tad higher. And the front and rear bumpers a wee bit more tough! Overall - a MUST for any prospective car buyer looking for an option in its category (and even maybe one higher - the ZXI - ABS)Performance, fuel economy, driving pleasure,Driving position - the seat in the LXI can be slightly raised, too much of plastic outside

I would say that Maruti has done everyone in and must be laughing all the way to the bank. I sold my lovely Esteem for this piece of junk! The interiors are tacky, tyres are thin (screeching at corners) the suspension is very hard, as is the gear box...shifting from 5th to 4th is tedious at high speeds. For 5 lakhs, the VXI could have done much better. I have always been a Maruti person (6 cars in all) but I stop here. Maruti has lost a valuable fan. Shameful day for the company.Looks good perhaps and has received a lot of media hypevery tacky interiors, low driver's seat, poor fuel economy

This is d best car in this segment. If u want to get the best deal for ur hard earned money then dont look beyond this car. i cannot understand y ppl compare swift with santro& other punny cars???its like comparing a lion with a hyena. swift is a good city commuter & an excellent highway cruiser....... its giving me a mileage of 12 in city with ac & 16 on highways with ac which i think is pretty good for a 1300cc car...................(continued)
After driving this car for more that 1 year,i must say that iam very much satisfied with the car.
These are the pro's & con's of the car
      Pro's
1)A/C: Its a chilling experience driving this car:-).The interiors get cooled very quickly.I can say that its got the best A/C among the hatchbacks
2)POWER:This car has got a marvellous engine. Its got good LET(low end torque),its smooth & silent. Its easy to drive in the city due to its LET.There is not much of a power difference when the A/C is ON.
On the highways i have touched around 165km/hr before i ran out of road.I guess it can go much more than that.....
3)MILEAGE:With a light foot i got a mileage of 13kmpl in the city (with the A/C ON)
On the highways i got a mileage of 16-17kmpl(80% A/C on)
4)RIDE & HANDLING:This car is  really a stunner when it comes to handling...its rock stable when its on highways cruising at 120km/hr.The ride is average.
      Con's
      1)The boot is not spacious
2)Before the 2nd service the doors developed some rattling noise  but it was rectified later.
great style, this beast has oodles of power, good fuel econot so spacious boot.
