Redi-GO 1.0 Review

The Datsun Redi-GO is the third car from the Japanese automaker which was unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo and has joined the Datsun’s budget offerings. It is an A-segment hatchback and is the entry-level offering in the Datsun hierarchy. Although it has been around for a while now, a Redi-GO with a 1.0-litre engine is now expected.

It is an A-segment hatchback and is the entry-level offering in the Datsun hierarchy. Although it has been around for a while now, a Redi-GO with a 1.0-litre engine is now expected.

Datsun Redi-GO Exterior

The Redi-GO gets a futuristic adaptation of the Japanese automaker’s fascia and it retains the chrome hexagonal grille from the GO and GO+, but gets sleeker swept back headlights. The fascia also includes a futuristic bumper which is separated from the front grille by a narrow air dam.

The side profile includes flared wheel arches and aerodynamic lines that extend into the boot and then onto the other side. The Redi-GO’s roofline slopes at both ends and gives the impression that the car is leaning forward. At the rear, the Redi-GO gets a sloping roofline with a smaller rear spoiler. Despite the rest of the car having so many lines and little touches to give it a funky appearance, the rear is a little less spectacular than the rest of the car.

The interior of the Redi-GO are fresh and modern unlike its’ Datsun siblings. The beige dashboard gets multiple cubby holes along with the standard glove-box. The instrument console gets a big dial for the speedometer in the centre and a multi-function display to read out the vitals. Power windows in the front are offered with the T(O) and S trims while the rear gets manual fobs across all trims. On the safety front, while there is no ABS on offer even as an option, the Redi-GO gets driver airbag as an option for the top-spec S trim.

The Redi-GO has been developed on the same platform as the Renault Kwid and hence shares the 800cc three-cylinder petrol engine. With the Kwid getting the 1.0-litre engine option and AMT, it is likely that the Redi-GO will also be offered with the same power train. If the AMT is not available right now, then it is expected to be offered in due course of time.

The Datsun Redi-GO competes in the A-segment with the Renault Kwid, Datsun GO, and the Maruti Alto K10.
