New BMW X4 explained in detail

BMW has fired its first salvo for 2019 by introducing an all-new body-style in its line-up – a mid-size coupe-SUV in the form of the BMW X4. This coupe SUV is based on the practical X3 and offers a stylish and sportier option for customers who want a little more flair. 

The X4 has the typical BMW fascia that we have become accustomed to with the kidney grilles growing in size with every iteration. The vertically slatted chrome surround grille is flanked by the signature devil-eye LED headlamps and sits atop a muscular bumper that would likely suit a sportscar than an SUV. The X4 is an urban SUV that can be seen in its hunkered stance and its sportiness is underlined by the sloping roofline which ends in a stubby boot like the X6.

The sportiness continues inside the cabin as well with the all-black sporty interior. Being at the premium end of BMW’s SUV spectrum, the X4 has all the bells and whistles that the price point commands along with the famous BME dynamics. All-wheel drive is standard on the X4 and you get to choose from a 2.0-litre diesel, the 3.0-litre straight six diesel and the 3.0-litre petrol engines. The 3.0-litre diesel comes with a whopping 620Nm of torque, the highest in its segment and the eight-speed automatic gearbox is standard across the range.

The 2.0-litre comes with a lower trim with a few features pulled out from the top-spec trim that come only with the 3.0-litre options. At a price tag that ranges between Rs 60.6 lakhs to Rs 65.9 lakhs ex-showroom, the X3 goes straight up against the all-new Volvo XC60 which is a very impressive car in itself. Its only direct competitor in the current market is the Jaguar F-Pace, the British coupe-SUV, or the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, but only if it sheds the AMG badge.

The Audi Q5 and the BMW X3 are always there as alternatives if you want to save a few monies along with the higher trims of the Discovery Sport or the Range Rover Evoque. For a similar amount of money, you could also opt for executive luxury sedans like the Mercedes E-Class, BMW 5 Series, Audi A5 or the Volvo S90.
