Land Rover has officially unveiled the 2018 Discovery in India. It has been priced in the range of 68.05 lakhs and is available across five petrol and diesel variants, six colour options and is based on a new aluminium intensive platform that has helped it shed 480kgs as compared to the older vehicle.
This is the fifth generation for the Discovery moniker and since it is now the flagship for the Land Rover range of cars, JLR has loaded it to the gills with features. Standard features include multi-zone climate control, leather upholstery, inControl Touch Pro infotainment system, a 14-speaker Meridian digital surround system and four 12V charging points amongst others. The infotainment system can be controlled through a smartphone app which is part of the InControl Touch Pro Services.
In terms of design, the car now gets the latest design language of the British SUV maker and this is visible in the wedge-like head lamps and tail lamp setup, two-slat chrome grille and forward-leaning stance. The heavy SUV credibility comes in the form of the contrast coloured bash plates, large wheels and high stance.
This new Discovery Sport can be had in India with a 3.0-litre diesel or a 3.0-litre petrol V6 engine. The former is good for 245bhp/600Nm while the petrol engine produces 335bhp/450Nm. It is an eight-speed AT for both engines and because this is a Land Rover there is full-fledged AWD system (LR Terrain Response) for when the going gets tough.
The Discovery is Land Rover’s answer to the likes of the Mercedes-Benz GLS, BMW X5, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 as well as its own sibling the Jaguar F-Pace.
