Jaguar has updated the all-new E-Pace with a ‘self-learning’ Smart Settings technology and an Adaptive Dynamics suspension set-up. The new technology is scrounged from the all-electric I-Pace. The AI-based Smart Setting learns the driver’s habit and adapts accordingly to make their life easier.
The E-Pace can now recognise the approaching driver from the key fob and the driver’s smartphone Bluetooth signal. It will then adjust the seat, climate control and the infotainment system according to the driver’s preferences. The car can store up to eight driver’s profiles. The Smart System over time can also tailor- make the settings depending on time, location, weather and behaviour patterns. The Smart Settings is offered as part of the Connect Pro Pack, which also consists of a 4G Wi-Fi Hotspot, Pro Services and navigation.
The adaptive suspension offered in the E-Pace uses continuously variable damper technology with a triple-tube design and externally mounted hydraulic valves. This suspension monitors vehicle movements every two milliseconds and calculates the required damping force every 10 milliseconds. It responds to the driver’s input and road surface changes to provide better control and minimise body roll.
Under the hood, the baby Jag SUV gets an entry-level petrol motor. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol motor from the Ingenium family produces 198bhp of power. The new motor can help the compact SUV to spring from 0-100kmph in 8.2 seconds and return a fuel efficiency of 14.62kmpl. The new petrol motors sit below the 247bhp and 296bhp petrol variants which were introduced with the E-Pace earlier. All the new engines from the Coventry-based carmaker now comes equipped with particulate filters to achieve a higher standard of emission control.
