Fiat has recently launched the Urban Cross for the Indian market. The car is basically a new variation of the Punto hatchback, in fact, the third after the Avventura. However, the one that has gone on sale is slightly different from the prototype that was showcased at this year's Auto Expo. The Urban Cross is based on the Avventura, which is a crossover version of the Punto hatchback. However, the most prominent difference is the absence of the tailgate-mounted spare wheel.
The new crossover measures 4,000mm in length, 1,700mm in width, 1,500mm in height and has a ground clearance of 205mm.
The one that was shown at the biennial event had more features than the one that is now available. Apart from skimping on quite a few elements, Fiat has also toned down the styling of the Urban Cross.
As a result, the LED DRLs shown earlier are now missing along with the chrome induced grille. Also, the 17-inch alloys wheels have been replaced with 16-inch ones.
Nevertheless, it carries over the aggressive and sporty look like the Avventura. Body cladding and a roof spoiler is standard across all its variants.
If a prospective buyer wants a more unique look, he can opt for the Abarth trim. This variant gets special badging across the body and rides on sportier Scorpio alloy wheels.
The Dynamic diesel and Emotion petrol variants get an optional burgundy designer interior with colour coordinated door inserts, piano finish door armrests and designer seats with badging.
This model comes equipped with a five-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This unit is compatible with Bluetooth, USB and AUX connectivity as well as navigation.
The cross-hatch will be available in both petrol and diesel variants. Prices range from Rs 6.85 lakh to Rs 9.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Only time will tell if the styling of the new Urban Cross suits the Indian buyer's taste. The nationwide delivery of the car will begin on October 1, 2016.
