Baojun 510 Preview
MG is going an expansion spree and its next target will be the entry-level D-segment SUV segment with this car, the 510 SUV. It will be a rival for the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur and future models from Toyota and Maruti Suzuki.
The 510 SUV measures in at 4.2-meters with a wheelbase of 2.55-meters putting it on par across both measurements with the competition in the segment. In terms of appearance, it takes many of external design cues from the larger MG Hector. This includes, the low set headlamps, large grille as well the placement of the LED DRLs. In profile, you can see the flared wheel arches, rear sloping roofline and boomerang shaped tail lamps that wrap around the side. Inside, the Chinese market gets a black cabin with silver inserts on the dashboard and doors with features like climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, leather upholstery, power mirrors and power driver’s seat. We also expect that MG will offer its i-SMART connected car technology as a part of the deal.
The Chinese market only gets a 1.5-litre four cylinder petrol engine which, in India, will be offered with a CVT as well as a manual transmission. All versions of the car are expected to get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and ESC.
Given that MG has been taking a top down approach, we expect that they will bring the car for the Indian market late 2021 and is expected to price it in the range of Rs 11 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.
