The 1.5L diesel engine is surprisingly competent—it has enough low-end grunt to pull smoothly from a standstill, making city driving genuinely manageable, and the claimed mileage is a big step up from its bigger 4x4 sibling. This practicality is the Thar's new humanitarian angle—it brings the iconic look to the daily commuter, Now for the unvarnished truth: it's still a Thar. The ride is bumpy, especially over broken city roads; the stiff suspension, which gives it its rugged character, makes it unsettled at high speeds.
