The Tata Nexon is the larger and more premium of the two. Stronger engines, more space, and a powertrain menu that runs wider than anything else Tata sells at this size.
The Punch sits a segment below. It is smaller, cheaper and built for the city, and it rides better than anything in its class. It is also the only car in India you can buy with a CNG automatic.
Choose the Punch for the lowest price and the easiest city driving. CNG here is hassle-free, and owners report the fewest problems. The Nexon answers if you need more space, more highway ability, a richer feature list, or the diesel and turbo-CNG options.

Price
Punch: Rs. 5.70 – 10.67 Lakh (ex-showroom). At equivalent trims it undercuts the Nexon by roughly Rs. 1.5 to 2 lakh.
Nexon: Rs. 7.40 – 14.40 Lakh (ex-showroom). Pricier at every point. The range also stretches much further, into fully-loaded territory the Punch never reaches.

Engine & CNG
Punch: The 1.2 petrol comes in Naturally Aspirated and turbo forms. Its CNG unit is naturally aspirated and makes 72bhp, which is modest. What matters more is that it is the segment's first CNG automatic, an AMT with paddle shifters. For city work that combination is hard to beat.
Nexon: Three engines. A 1.2 turbo-petrol making 118bhp, a 1.5 diesel with 113bhp, and a turbocharged CNG rated at 99bhp and 170Nm. That CNG returned 11.65 kmpl in the city and 17.5 kmpl on the highway in testing.

Size & Space
Punch: The boot measures 366 litres, marginally the larger of the two on paper. The rear seat is where it gives ground. Best suited to couples or small families.
Nexon: It runs 119mm longer and 62mm wider. That shows up in the back, where legroom, headroom and shoulder room are all noticeably better. Three adults fit.

Features
Punch: The essentials are covered. A 10.25-inch screen, a 360-degree camera, wireless charging and blind-spot view. The instrument cluster is where it stops short, staying semi-digital.
Nexon: Everything above, plus a panoramic sunroof and ventilated front seats. JBL handles the audio. The cluster goes fully digital here.
Neither car offers ADAS on its ICE variants.

Safety
Both cars hold a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating. Six airbags and ESP are standard from the base variant on either one. Nothing separates them here.

Ride & Ownership
Punch: Ride quality is the segment benchmark. Owners also report noticeably fewer quality and service complaints.
Nexon: It sits more planted at highway speeds. The trade-off shows up after purchase, with more owner-reported fit-finish and after-sales niggles.
