Toyota Camry vs Honda Accord

The Toyota Camry Hybrid is a premium executive sedan priced at Rs 41.7 lakh (ex-showroom). As a result, it goes up against the Skoda Superb, and even ventures into the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe and Mercedes A-Class territory. Yes, this Toyota doesn’t have the same snob value, but remains one of the unique long three-box sedans with its own USPs, like hybrid power, focus on rear-seat comfort, etc. — all of which we will get to in a bit. Camry is Toyota’s only sedan in India and now gets cosmetic updates and new features in its eighth-gen avatar.

The Accord Hybrid is Honda India’s first full-fat premium offering in years. It is also the brand’s maiden attempt at giving an eco-friendly alternative to the diesel brigade from the Germans. That being said, it mainly rivals the Toyota Camry Hybrid which has been bit of a lone ranger in the Indian market for quite some time. Now Honda, as we know, has bet a lot on hybrid technology. The latter in fact is part of Honda’s modern DNA and can be seen in several models globally. For the Indian market, Honda decided to introduce its latest hybrid tech with the ninth-gen Accord. We took it out for a quick spin to tell you if going green has helped its cause.

Honda is scheduled to launch the new Accord in Thailand later this month. While that’s well and good for the Japanese automaker who enjoys good presence in the Thai market, it also means that it won’t be too long before the new Accord hits the Indian market.
