| Most Helpful Review | Smooth cruiser, troubled starter. The buying process was not great. The dealership (Bhavna Kia) was reluctant to allow me a proper PDI, which later led to several issues. From what I observed, the dealer hardly conducts any serious PDI themselves—they seem more focused on selling the car quickly. On the other hand, the service centre experience has been average, nothing exceptional, but not disappointing either. The Kia Carens Turbo Petrol Manual has some fundamental issues with ECU tuning. In stop-and-go traffic, especially on inclines or hilly roads, the engine feels like it will stall. Even in normal city driving—say, when you’re stuck in a pothole or about to move over a speed breaker—you experience clutch juddering and vibrations, which often lead to stalling. Sometimes, slowing down to 5–10 km/h causes the RPM to drop sharply to around 500, making the car vibrate as if it’s about to shut off. Kia’s own engineers investigated my car and acknowledged the issue. They explained that the ECU has been tuned this way. They mentioned that an ECU update might be considered after further evaluation, but nothing is guaranteed. The turbo petrol engine only feels exciting once the turbo kicks in around 2,000 RPM. Beyond that, it’s decent to drive, but this is definitely not an enthusiast’s car. Body roll is noticeable, so extra caution is needed on corners. That said, once the car crosses 20–30 km/h, it becomes smooth and pleasant to drive. The fuel Economy is 8 km/l in the city, 12–14 km/l on the highway. It’s very sensitive to driving style—if you accelerate a bit aggressively, mileage drops significantly. The engine is refined and smooth, but the ECU tuning is the weak link in the Turbo Petrol MT variant. The 360° camera is a huge help for parking and city manoeuvring. The comfort level is on par with the best cars in this segment. Apart from the major ECU tuning issue, the Kia Carens Turbo Petrol MT is a good car. But it is not an enthusiast’s choice—better suited for relaxed driving once you’re past the initial 20–30 km/h range. | Perfect family car Excellent hospitality from the Kia dealer and a great family car with decent fuel economy. Pros Spacious third row and value for money. Cons Nothing much to say, just a footstep, just be there for older people. |
