I test drove, Ford  Endevour, Mitsubishi Pajero and Cheverlot Captiva ( Honda CRV dealer could not provide a test drive even after requesting few times). The height of the driver seats and leg room was the deciding factor against Ford endevour ( I am not looking for fuel economy if somebody looking fuel economy then they should not go for any of the SUVs). The factor went against Pajero was the outdated model and the old body shape. Pajero is bigger than Captiva still feels and body feels very light/flimsy on the road.

Captiva the design is very good, nice interiors, very good leg room for the front seats and the middle seats. The rear seats are not comfortable at all and better not to use and use it as a luggage space only. The driving comfort is very good, nice view from the drivers seat except for rear side. You have to use the side mirrors to view the vehicles coming from behind rather than the centre mirror. The airconditoner works really good, seats are not bad but as not plush as the ones you find outside India but good compared to the other models. If you are cruising on highway it is good, in town the first and second gear the power is really good, but when you are on third gear inside the city, the engine clutters and there is no much power.

      Pros

      Bold look and good interiors

      Cons

Rear seats and rear view from the rear view mirror.

Don't ask about fuel economy if you are planning to buy a SUV, enjoy your driving ( Hope you are driving the vehicle not your driver)

Below comments are after using 3 weeks,

I drove around 1000 Kms in first 3 weeks, the mileage in what I get in Mumbai city is around 10 Kms per Litre.

The aircondition is very good, for the front seats and middle row, still  dont know how it will be  in the last row because there is no seperate vent for the middle and last row.

Below are the comments after using almost 5 months and driving more than 7000 kms

We had some real good drive from Mumbai to Kerala via Goa and while coming  back took the route of satymanaglam forest - Bangalore and then Kolhapur and then Mumbai. The drive was excellent and we never faced any kind of problem with vehicle ( Captiva). The roads were excellent and there were few bad patches. Total distance we covered in this trip was around 5500 kms, The average mileage on long distance was around 12 Kms. Only problem we faced was with the Music system, the CD player stopped working by the end of the journey, but got fixed when i came back to Mumbai thanks to Ashtavinayak Auto ( Dealer for Chevy). The drive was really comfortable, as per my family travelling in the middle seat also was comfortable, the rear seats were not used and used it as luggage space only.  The vehilce is having real good road grip, touched the maximum speed of 180 kms while we were on Bangalore - Kolhapur strech.

We used the vehilce is real village roads in kerala where there is no tarmac and the performance was good.

I bought this car through Ashtavinayak Automobiles and they are providing excellent after sales service.

Any new car buyers and going for loan be carefull about the direct sales agents of banks, they will quote you more interest and also price of the car more than the dealers, Go directly to the dealers for buying the car and also go directly to the bank to get loan rather than going through the Direct sales agent. For saving almost 2 lacs - thanks to HDFC and  Ashtavinayak. Soon shall reveal the name of the direct sales agent who tried to cheat me.

Elegant Style, Very good pick up, Good view from the driver's seat, very good interiorsLast row seats are very congested, unable to view properly through rear view mirror

      Dear Readers.

No doubt spark is wonderful vehicle but I am one of those unlucky ones who have been cheated by a GM deal named "Triumph Motors" They had sold me an accidental and used car. So kindly dont go to this dealer for buying ur car or getting ur car serviced. Because they are cheaters and will sell you used or accidental vehicles that  too not fully repaired under GM standards. And can cause u big trouble some day.

I bought this LS variant on April 10. I have done 5600kms in the last 6 months. Last week I was going at a speed of 10kmps when I got a sudden noise and my car got stoppen. I opened up my engine and found that the engine mounting had broken and the car's engine from left side had fallen down. The car was not in a position to move even an inch.

We had to call a recovery van from Chevrolet who took 10 hrs to  send our car to their workshop.

The workshop people had shown us the duplicate and local screws used in the cay by Triumph Motors which caused us this big problem. My repair will is 25000. and Triumph motors are not yet admitting thier fault.

So I would recomend do not buy ur car from Triumph motors.

I bought my chevrolet captiva car on 2008 from Geeyem motors, Cochin.  The cars engine was stucked in 55000 km and they replaced engine & pump after my several emails and after getting the notice from my lawyer. Even they charged rs.25000 from me.

After that the repalced second engine is stucked now in 115000km.  So the second engine run for 60000 km and now they are forcing us to pay the full amount of engine overhaul charges around 2 lakhs.  For replacing I have to 4 lakhs.

How can I change or overhaul engine in every 55000 or 60000 km for 20 lakh worth costly car? I never suggest the captiva vehicle, even getting very bad services from Geeyem motors, Cochin.  Now I do not have the car for 2 months.

How can I trust on Chevrolet vehicles ? If there is any logic for changing the engine in every 50 to 60 thousand kilometer?

GOOD POWER, GOOD TO DRIVEENGINE COMPLAINT, HEAVY SERVICE CHARGES

Exterior style is Fair, though the body sheet used is not of proper gauage, Bonnet gets dented while closing and that is commonly opened when you visit a Mall or a Hotel.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Space is good, but the air conditioner is not good. AC vents are not provided for rear seats. Passengers seated always request you increase the A/c speed even if it is running at full. Vehicle is comfortable but suspension is very costly. Rear Shock Absorbers cost 54K and Front suspension is also costly.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox My Car's Engine is being overhauled at 1 Lac Km and is costing me 4.5 L INR. No other car Manufacturer's engine is overhauled at this Low a milage. Brake pads are costly. For that matter all spares are costly. Electronics are not of good quality. My Car had a problem with reverse parking lights and could never be rectified. Every time I am charged for the same but after a week or 10 days they again start giving problem. This problem is never faced even in M800.

Ride Quality & Handling Ok. Steering is very light.

Final Words Don't even think of buying one, take my opinion - arvindindia@hotmail.com.

Areas of improvement Attitute towards Servicing.

Good StylePoor Airconditioner, No AC Vents for Back Row, Engine needs Overhauling at 1.0 Lac Km, High Maint.

Exterior The Captiva has a very nice sporty look. The front as well as the back looks perfectly thought off. One can add sporty stickers if they do not like the single colour look. Size is also perfect and makes it easy to park in Malls or congested places.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Very nice interiors. The foldings seats are fantastic. Can give ample space to store almost anything.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox The car is very smooth. Can easily revv to 170 kmph on the highway. Only issue is the 1920 CC engine which makes it a little wanting while overtaking and on inclines. The RAW power feel is missing. Fuel economy is good. Gives 11 km/l in city conditions with AC. Gives more in non AC conditions.

      Gearbox is good and smooth.

Ride Quality & Handling Good handling. Smooth ride.

Final Words Extremely good buy - in the current SUV market in this range. Competition flaws as below:

Toyota Fortunner - Interiors are tacky. Else everything is good,

Mitsubishi Pajero - Very old technology. Interiors tacky,

Mitsubishi Outlander - Petrol Automatic - Fuel economy will kill you,

Honda CRV - Petrol on a SUV.... Same issue as above,

Ford Endeavor - Good heavy feel but vehicle too long.

Areas of improvement They should have a 3 Litre engine.

The looks and the interiorThe low power - good for city driving. Is an issue while overtaking and on inclines

Exterior Ok, under chasis is poor.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Nice, plush luxurious which was the reason i bought this...

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox OK, from the day 1 i purchased this car, i complained to the dealer as well as to GM India that the car steering is not centred & the car pulls to the left..they tried doing Wheel Allignment atleast 3 times but no improvement. The mechanics at the dealer tried to pursuade me saying that this is due to the road conditions as if i had neve driven a car in Bangalore. This is certainly not my first car but surely is the Last GM car for sure. the problem is on all types of roads. (streets, highways, dirt roads etc...).

Ride Quality & Handling OK, though not good car for off-roads!

Final Words DONT EVEN THINK OF BUYING THIS CAR... NOT WORTH FOR THE PRICE...

      Areas of improvement

      Ground Clearance.

I bought this car in April & had a horrible experience so far, the car has a poor design for Indian roads & i have suffered twice with hefty bills due to some stone hitting the bottom of the car which damaged the Oil pump assembly, looks like the ground clearence is not enough or the under chasis is not designed for the indian conditions. definetly not an offroader if you are looking for one. in summary dont buy it.

      Good StylingNot good for offroading

This is to bring to your kind attention of my utter shock and disbelief while being slapped with a service charge of upto Four Lac Rupees, when I had taken my 4 year-old Chevrolet Captiva to your service station  at Kun Chevrolet Service Centre, Hyderabad, after experiencing a sudden  break-down of the vehicle.

Previously, we had done 45000 kms service at Cargo Motors, Gandhidham, where they had not replaced Engine Head Cover, due to the negligence and inefficient service by M/s. Cargo Motors, Chevorlet Service Centre, Gandhidham, now the coolent has gone into the Engine & all this problems has occurred. My conclusion the Technicians at Ghandhidham Service Centre are not properly trained and qualified. More over in my warranty period, I complained personally to the head of Gujarat Chevorlet General Motors, about the inefficient service personal  at M/s. Cargo Motors, Chevorlet Service Centre at Gandhidham, Gujarat.

better of them all. however, an automatic deisel would have been the ultimate best, even if they had increased the price to another 1 Lakh.

the space for back benchers is very tight. infact feels like a coffin space. suitebale for kids. people who have had the innova, would feel this, honestly.

Interiors are great plus for this segment. even beats the CRV outright. The console design is modernistic and looks elegant.

the engine, drive and the pick up to me seemed the best ( as compared to innova, CRv, )

lots of other features like the mororised seats (only driver I think) were definetly a boost.
however the major issue, I thought apart from not having Automatic, is the AC being not disturbuted to the back seaters. I wonder people hwo have designed this forgot to give independant AC controls.  most disgusting was this.

Otherwise, I think it is good proposition.
what remains is to see wether the resale Value holds good. all depends on Chverlet, if they could market this product better than CRv, remains to be seen.

I heard its got good fuel economyspace for the back most seats is horrible and congested. no where compared to innova's spacious desi

Diesel performance, refinement and versatility redefine premium SUV segment

      CAPTIVA

New Delhi: On its first-of-a-kind floating pavilion at the 9th Auto Expo in Pragati Maidan, General Motors India today launched its state-of-the-art Chevrolet Captiva premium sport utility vehicle.

Mr. Karl Slym, President and Managing Director of General Motors India, said: "The Captiva has been warmly welcomed in markets around the world due to its combination of distinctive styling, refinement, best-in-class safety, comfort and versatility and powerful yet frugal diesel powertrain. The Captiva is everything our customers across India have come to associate with the Chevrolet nameplate."

      Premium styling

The striking Captiva is a study of taut automotive dynamism in its design execution. With its boldly contoured hood, aggressive clear-lens projection headlamps and eye-catching grille featuring a prominent Chevrolet bowtie, the Captiva is sure to turn heads wherever it is driven.

In profile, the Captiva comes across as both rugged and sophisticated. Bold wheel arches, wide tyres mounted on alloy wheels and a sharp feature line across the length of the Captiva add to the masculinity of its stance, while subtle chrome highlights and a bold coupe-style rear window treatment add feline grace to the overall visual package.

The Captiva's strong rear design is dominated by a large tailgate and substantial vertical tail lamps with indicators and reversing lamps contained in circular elements. Below, twin chrome exhaust pipes complement the Captiva's sporty looks.

      Refined powertrain

      The Captiva comes with a state-of-the-art, 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder, single overhead cam
16-valve diesel engine. Combined with a common-rail direct injection system and a variable geometry turbo (VGT) system, the engine produces 150 PS of peak power at 4,000 rpm and
320 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. Torque is produced through a very flat curve, ensuring ample reserves to make frequent downshifting redundant, whether on the highway or in city traffic.

Transfer of power to the road is the result of a carefully matched, five-speed all-synchromesh manual gearbox that offers effortless, sure-slotting sporty gearshift action.

      Intelligent interiors

The Captiva has been constructed to maximise space. It comfortably accommodates seven adults and can be transformed into a versatile and adaptable luggage carrier in a flash. Its unique, fold-flat seating arrangement provides up to 1,565 liters of cargo volume.

Practicality has also been accorded priority. The Captiva incorporates convenience features such as a remote-operated tailgate glass for quick access and many thoughtful storage solutions, including a large wet/dry area beneath the load compartment floor, a glove box cooler, a deep centre console bin, a rear centre console storage area and handy door bins.

Other convenience features include bottle holders, small item/coin and cup holders, a parking ticket holder, an overhead sunglasses compartment, seatback pockets and a dual-compartment sliding driver's armrest. The Captiva also features three 12-volt power outlets that are accessible to all passengers.

The Captiva's all-leather beige interior and matching cabin exude total luxury, while an integrated 2-DIN CD/MP3 player with six speakers provides an extremely pleasurable listening experience. Tinted automatic windows, power mirrors, an eight-way power adjustable driver seat and an electronic climate control system with particle filter are all standard.

      Unmatched safety

Our engineers have made safety a priority in the Captiva. Driver and front passenger airbags, front seatbelt pre-tensioners and load limiters, and height-adjustable front seatbelts come standard. The Captiva's four-channel ABS with brake assist-equipped discs intelligently assists with pedal pressure when it detects an emergency braking situation. The rigid high-strength body shell of the Captiva has been optimised to distribute crash forces over defined load paths to help protect the integrity of the passenger safety cell.

      Balanced chassis

As a result of a concerted development effort, the Chevrolet Captiva has been configured to tackle Indian roads, with completely optimised ride and handling characteristics. The result is a comfortable and stable vehicle that can easily take on varying local driving conditions.

Despite its SUV pedigree, the Captiva is ideal for the urban commute. Its trim exterior proportions ensure class-leading maneuverability in everyday driving conditions. The power steering system has been tuned for quick response, precise road feel and optimum driver feedback. The Captiva features a four-link independent rear suspension system and MacPherson struts up front. Suspension settings have been carefully calibrated to deliver car-like ride and handling even on imperfect road surfaces.

A unique feature of the Captiva is a level ride suspension system, which automatically maintains nominal ride height under differing load conditions - a feature that offers assured road clearance as well as optimal ride quality for passengers.<
