Volkswagen will launch the Polo 1.2TSI petrol in India this April, or latest by the start of May. The 1.2TSI is expected to be positioned alongside the 3-cylinder 1.2-litre petrol version. The performance figures of a TSI will be of a hot-hatchback, but since it is still a 1.2-litre engine and hence will be classified as a small car with all the tax benefits.
Volkswagen’s 1.2TSI Polo UK spec develops 105bhp and 175Nm of torque – that is lot more than power ratings of any vehicle classified as small car in India. The car might gradually replace the three-cylinder unit, but it will certainly be a little more expensive than the previous version. In fact the same engine might power the Vento as the figures are higher than the 1.6-litre petrol engine currently used in the Vento.
The Polo 1.2TSI will be priced close to Rs 6 lakh and it will compete with the Tata India Vista D90 and the Fiat Punto Sport. Stay tuned to Carwale for prices and detailed road test of the new Polo TSI
