As it is my first car, Its not good for me all the comparisions and too many points .. with just 6700 kms drive experience (out of which around 4500 kms on highway), 7 months old (brought in nov 2011) and with only 1st service done - I personally feel that I've made a right choice of becoming a proud owner of Toyota Liva..

      Exterior

      1. Good.. you cannot really make out whether it is sedan or hatchback if you look it from front.

      2. Opted for a Symphony silver color, adding a chrome grill is no point for this color. I've seen it really catchy for White and Black variants.

      3. The ground clearance is best for Indian roads (Tooth like extra projection beneath your car, acted as saver few times to the bottom of the vehicle)

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Few of my prime parameters in the initial stages have been met

      1. Space and comfort - great, 3 people can easily fit in the rear seat - no compromise even if 2 of them are heafty.

      2. Rear leg room - Very good

      3. Boot space - Really good

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

      1. Engine response is very good,

         - It can even pick in 4th gear from 10/15 kmph. Tested this on highway as I don't need to bother about other vehicles beeping horns.

         - No need of frequent gear shifts even in city.

One Cons: Engine has a little more noise than usual when you start the car, and when car is standstill and engine is on.

In second case, Not too sure, but it could be a noise of fan which turns on and off.. rather than engine.

Cannot much curse it as it has not completed it second service yet. But cannot give a verdict on this.

      2. Fuel Economy - Only City (varied based on the traffic conditions and usage of AC, lowest - 11.3 and highest - 14.5)

Highway (Varied based on usage of AC and speed, lowest 13.5 and highest around 17)

      Ride Quality & Handling

      1. Extremely good Power Steering

      2. Ride quality is really good, either a highway or city - Love it more on highways as city traffic is too boring for me

      3. Have tried this only once to check potential of vehicle - @135 kmph, the vehicle is so stable even when heavy vehicles passed by - Couldn't feel anything in the cabin at all.

      4. Suspension is too good - Though not a frequent traveller or a regular driver on highways, Travelled 630 kms in one day .. Not exhausted completely.. Felt like as if I've done only 200 odd kms.

      5. Breaking is good, except for a scenario as explained below..

      Cons:

      1. The Suspension is good, really nothing to hurt in bad road conditions. but you cannot cross a high speed breaker even at 10 kmph without hitting a ground.. May be you have to be even at lower speed?

      2. NOT Too sure if anyone have observed this or is intended behavior of a car..

      Specifically in following condition:

When you are on Neutral - On a slope or while vehicle is moving at some speed and you plan to keep in Neutral

      OR

When you switch on AC while driving

Break is not so effective, you need to press it a little harder than usual

      Final Words

Bit costly, but you get a Totyota make. One thing which I can think of "if you need quality, you have to pay for it"

      Areas of improvement

Interior Plastics may be a bit improvised

Space, Comfort, RideCannot really make out as it is my first car

      Exterior Aerodynamic look.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort Good space. Seating is very low limiting field of vision. Knee hits steering.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Very poor. The manufacturer claims 18.1 km per litre which is false claim used as bait to attract customer. In fact, it gives hardly 10.4 km per litre (petrol version). In fact, I was also attracted by the ad saying that it gives 18.1 km per litre. So I purchased Toyota Etios Liva G (petrol) but found that it gives hardly 10.4 km per litre.

Light are very poor. There are shadows in lower beam and headlight also does not have adequately illumination. There is only one backlight for reverse gear. This gives very poor light during night and does not help you to drive in reverse gear in night.

Ride Quality & Handling While driving the field of vision is very poor.

Final Words Not good for money.

Areas of improvement 1. Mileage should be improved.

      2. Design has to change to improve field of vision.

      3. Lights should be improved and two lights in reverse gear must be restored.

Good look, comfortable ride, good suspension, good accelearation.Poor Light, Very-very poor mileage (petrol version does not give more than 10 km per litre).

      Exterior Very good.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) 3 people can sit confortably in back seat without getting cramped for leg room. Very practical family car.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Little sluggish on lower gears , not measured the fuel economy, gear  transition is also very smooth.

Ride Quality & Handling Easy handling in city traffic and good comfort level.

Final Words Prices are little high for the top variants . If one is looking for a family car with good comfort level then liva is a decent choice. I had done test drive of fiat punto and hyundai i20 before finalizing on liva. Fiat punto and hyundai i20 may provide extremely attractive interiors with multiple gadgets  like automatic climate control. But rear seat passengers feel very cramped for space . I did not want to compromise on rear seat passengers comfort with gadgets and better looking interiors. When travelling in a car I feel space and comfort is more important than rarely used gadget features or attractive interiors.

      Areas of improvement NA.

Very Spacious in both front and rear seats, comfort , easy handlinghigh price, dvd player without display monitor

      Exterior

Even though this car cannot be considered as 'Good Looking', at the same time we cannot consider as 'Bad' also. So, overall, i am satisfied with the exteriors.

The things that i am missing so far:

      1. Rear Wiper (my earlier WagonR had!!!)

      2. Rear Defogger

      3. Fog Lamps

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Interior plastic quality could have been improved.

      Tachometer is badly missing :(

      But on the positive sides:

      1. I really like the spacious leg room for rear passengers

      2. Decent boot space (compared to new swift)

      3. ABS

      4. Pretty good suspension

      5. Fun to drive both in city and on highway, easily maneuverable.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

My car is just 4 days old and i have driven around 150kms so far, all within the city limits. But I am very much satisfied with the performance so far. Will be going for a long drive on this weekend. So, i should be able to give my feedback on 'highway drive' and may be, also on FE.

      Ride Quality & Handling

Over the weekend, i went for a long drive (to tirupati). I am extremely happy with the overall drive experience. As i had not crossed the required KMS on the odometer, i was driving slowly and made sure that i never crosses 90kmph. The car is pretty easy and confortable to handle. Ergonomics has been pretty good and overall, i never felt tired even after the drive.

      Final Words

I am 100% happy with my choice and would definately like to recommend this car to any of my friends. Please do not go with the 'common' reviews that you find every where on net and jump into 'swift'. Test drive the vehicle, and if you are not that much bothered about 'interiers' and can live without tachometer, then i would strongly recommend this car.

      Areas of improvement

       Tachometer, Fog lamps and Defogger.

Note: I was unable to create an account in www.team-bhp.com. Hence, can anyone please post my review comments over there.

Brand, Proven Engine, Spacious, ABS, Good SuspensionLack of Tachometer, dull interiors

Exterior Good paint quality, looks pesentable though not at all eye catching. Accessories in vx do improve looks but at a cost.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Excellent space, comfortable back seats as they are spacious though not well cushioned. dash looks made of very poor quality plastics. Interior colour is very downmarket. Look at the side mirror adjuster knobs-they are so small you cannot even hold them comfortably. Boot is small with fairly high loading lip. sound insulation is very poor. I have a i10 and it is really quite with the windows up.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Performance okay for sedate city driving. try rapid acceleration and you will be dissapointed at the response. ride over broken roads and you will feel the sharpness of bumps are well dampened as compared to my i10 which gets really bouncy on poor roads. I have no idea of the FE but i do not expect it to be mind boggling. the gear box is very soft and easy to operate. liva also has a beautifully compact turning radius.

Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is good and handling predictable.

Final Words Toyota tells us that they had to do rigorous cost cutting to achieve a acceptable price for the liva. Sir the liva is by no means inexpensive. the obvious cost cuttings are extremely glaring at this price compared to ANY hatchback. even the i10 has better interiors, has a good and poweful engine and no evidence of cost cutting except the one piece front seat backrests.

If you buy the liva you would have to buy it on the strength of the company and belief in their quality rather than on the apparent quality of the car. who knows it might turn out to be like the indestructible qualis which had nothing to appreciate till you realised years after what toyota calls the Q class.

The etios is excellent at that price point with minimum competition, but is the liva as desirable in the stiff competition of the hatchbacks.

Areas of improvement  interiors, interiors, interiors and interiors.

Very good paint quality, good ride comfort, very light clutch and steeringPrice- cost cutting excessive

      Exterior

The looks are fine h/ever the body is very light. I was driving at a speed of 35kmpl when due to a sudden breaking, I ran into an alto. Nothing happened to the alto h/e my liva was not in a drivable position after that. The bonut , bumper, both head lights, both fenders ,radiator, a/c.  We're all damaged. Theestimated repair cost advised by Toyota is 2lac inr (approx 1/3 of the car price)

I was surprised to see the condition of the car. Have checked h/ever could not find a single crash test video of this car on you tube. Iunderstand that the rules in India does not require a crash test . H/ever a car manufacturer liketoyota should have done it before launching this car in maket.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

With a little bit of modification, theinteriors are fine.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Drive is good h/ever the mileageusing only 15kmpl.

      Ride Quality & Handling

       Good

      Final Words

would not recommend anyone to buy this car as I feel it is not a safe car.

      Areas of improvement

Toyota really need to work on improving the strength of the body.

Overall looks, drive is goodBody is very weak

Exterior Looks bland, smiling grill looks nice though, especially in blue shade. Rear styling is nice.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Looks under speceed. No audio system. And it is Rs.5.54 lakhs,Expected fog lamps and audio system.Space is good. Rear seat better than seat of new swift.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox 1.4 litre diesel engine will delivers only 68 bhp? The new swift has only a 1.3 diesel, but higher power output with 75 bhp. Fuel economy is excellent. Gearbox is nice.

Ride Quality & Handling Ride quality is good at low speeds but at high speeds-is a little unsettled. Handling is fine.

Final Words This is LIVA G-D SP(MH 04 EX 9891) From Shinrai toyota.  Why has toyota been so choosy? The etios DIESEL was launched with GD,VD and VXD,but this LIVA DIESEL only gets a basic G-D trim. Features missing are an audio system, alloy wheels, fog lamps, rear demister, rear wiper. I read AUTOCAR October issue and saw that LIVA GD(Safety Package) is avaliable for Rs.5.84 lakh and still has no audio system!!!Why did i buy LIVA Diesel?I should have bought BEAT TCDI LT instead. The beat looks sharp, and this liva looks boring.Beat interiors are youthful, and liva interiors are so bland!Beat gets audio system, climate control, fog lamps and rear defogger and wiper.

Areas of improvement Less features for Rs 5.84 lakhs? And what about the interiors?Improvement of looks.

      Space,Fuel economyLess features for Rs.5.84 lakh,Bland looking

Hello Sir this is laxminarayan from India Chennai, I have purchased your Toyota Brand car Etios Liva with Registration No TN 20 XXXXXX, I have query regarding the vehicle safety, the car has not met to the safety standards and made me disappointed on the same. Please find the details of the same. This is to inform you that on 10 th dec 2014, night 10.30 p.m. I was travelling back from company to home in the vehicle No.TN20XXXXXX manufacturing date sep 2011. Unfortunately met with an huge accident. A cow crossed the road and which made me lost my control on the vehicle and the vehicle got hit front to front to the cow. The cow lifted 6 to 8 feet from the ground level and fell down on the road and rolled front for a 50mt rolled on the road .so, u can imagine the impact of the accident. By god’s grace there was no major injury for me but I have few neck stretch and body pains. The vehicle got completely damage from the front side so badly even though the air bags failed to deploy which was very much shocking for me. other scenario luckily I was out of from this situation. But if something would have gone wrong to me and lost my life in the accident my family would have suffered a lot on this. Only due to the technical failures of airbags. purchased the vehicle no. TN20XXXXX with a special pack option by paying more money only keeping into mind that it will save me and my family at such situation but since it was complete technical failure of your air bags I have lost the confident on Toyota and its products. Toyota is not ready to accept their failure of Airbags and refusing. So finally I have decided to take this matter to consumer court and need your support and help to get compensated from Toyota.

Exterior Looks are OK. Water proofing of the doors not sufficient.  Doors are too light.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Good Space for three at the back.  The middle person can enjoy the flat feature of the floor.  Good legroom for the rear seaters.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Not for racing. Practical driving.  Good fuely ecnonomy of 22kmpl on highways.  Responsive gears.

Ride Quality & Handling Medium ride quality. Easy handling. Even with 170mm ground  clearance, the car's underbelly can get get hurt by the speedbreakers though you drive on the first gear at a slow pace with 5 passengers. The problem is more pronounced if you have luggage added at the back along with 5 passengers(including driver).

Final Words Generally a good car.

Areas of improvement Needs good suspension and better practical ground clearance. The seats are hard and need more support and cushioning. The speakers with the car are starters.  No tacho meter for the starter models.

Spacious, economicalNot so good suspension. Can easily get hurt by bumps/speed breakers

Exterior I liked it because of the exterial look only. It looks like a Sedan car.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort) Interior can be improved bit as it is not so attractive when you compare other car in this segment. in Middle varient you have option for safety package( ABS & Airback) whereas in other car you can find this only in highend model.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox Excellent performance and moderate fuel economy. Fuel economy for first 3000 KM is less than 12 km and then it is increasing.

Ride Quality & Handling Feel very good when you ride this car. very smooth Handling.

Final Words As far I am aware, this is the nice car in this segment and true value for your money.

Areas of improvement Interior color and quality can be improved little bit.  Seat cover also looks so dull. This also can be improved.

Great performance ,comfort & spaceFuel economy for first 3000 KM
