I purchased the Tata Indigo Saffire Top end model for my own use and am now realising my mistake. I simply went by the advertisement/claims and the test drive to get carried away by the apparently good features for the price it offered. Partly the sales representative's skills also played a role in my decision.

Six months of use after purchase has seen six visits of the car back to workshop with serious quality problems. Just to highlight a few -

      1. The radiator fan gave a huge sound and with AC on - one could feel the vibrations in the steering - the fan was changed. Even now things are same. On a red light with AC on, people around you feel like telling you about the noise pollution it creates.

      2. The gear lever has been adjusted three times by the service guys - still gives a cracking sound when shifting gears. Luckily my driver does not feel bad about it and manages.

      3. Both the lighters are not working. They repair it one day - the next day - the lighters are off again.

      4. The reverse gear backlight is not working from day 1.

      5. The shockers/suspension gives a creaking sound like a truck when brakes are applied.

      6. The rear door lock lever is now not working and sending it again to workshop for repairs.

      7. The wheel caps are loose and have fallen twice.

      8.  The dashboard display goes off repeatedly.

Common response from the service guys - Sir, these are minor problems - happen with all cars - we will fix it. The car has only done 16000 KM and I have put it on carwale only for sale (even at a loss of 1.2 lakhs).

Committed the mistake of believing the Tata quality. Will never do that again. One should go to a workshop and service center of Tata motors to see your car as one among many taxis. The service center where I go to is always in a pool of water and they take you right through that to the workshop to explain the problems. Amazing!! I have been used to excellent service experience of Maruti and Hyundai.

My advise - please check for all quality issues before buying. I have even sent mails to the regional service head of Tata Motors - he has just forwarded the mail to the same service center and asked them to revert. There's no one to take care of you as a customer - pathetic to say the least.

Will be happy to explain more about my experiences.

TATA finally seems to have a winner under their hood.

I compared the Dzire,Linea and Manza - Manza clearly stands out in terms of VFM,standard features being given, and overall package being offered.

Well thought out space management within the car interior.

Good Leg room and comfortable seating for rear passengers as well. The drivers seat holds you well.

The rear bumper looks a bit out of place- unnecessarily huge, god knows why.Maybe tricky while driving up a hilly area/rough patch.

Hope the drive quality is equally good, since I only got to check out a standing model and did not get to test drive it.

Plastics used is OK, but could have been better.Dzire has better plastic quality.

One suggestion - Tata should stop calling it the Indigo Manza, just Manza will do.

Also, some are comparing this with the Honda City, which is unfair.Lets stick to the segment and the price tag, and wait for this one to perform on road.

Overall, a good buy, if TATA promises to improve its after sales service. But this one is sure to make a dent into Dzire and it's likes market.Lets wait n watch.

Overall Excellent Looks,Good space utlisation, standard features are VFMTata after sales service,Huge Bumper on the rear makes it look ugly in the first rear look

Sunday was the first day when Manza was available for a test drive in Gurgaon and I happened to be one of the first to drive one. The car is very comfortable, the driving position is good, the electronic controls for AC, music system and other stuff take a bit of getting used to and is very elaborate. Rear passenger gets ample space to stretch his legs and the DIS seems like a good feature to begin with couldnt quite get through me. Once put in gear, Manza has great control and the road grip was good as well. Uneven roads couldnt even grab my attention as even the sound wasnt something you would pay attention to. The gear shifts are smooth as well and the steering and gear position are very intuitive. Only drawback of this car was the car wasnt tuned to respond as soon as u hit the gas.. it has to go beyond 2 on the RPM meter to actually feel the pickup. Perhaps tuned for good mileage.. overall should be a good competition for Dzire given the Maruti car also lacks a bit on interiors and small tyresVFM, Rear passenger comfortAverage Interiors, Front looks Indica Vista like

      Hi,

I have been driving Santro Xing since 2005 (45,000 KMs). The moment I started thinking about a sedan model around 6 Lakhs, Hyundai Accent was my first selection – but due to its old model look and cop image in Chennai changed my thought and started analyzing various sedan model and finally short listed Tata Indigo Manza Aura Quadrajet.

Started driving Manza from 7th Jan 2010, as of now I drove 800KMs (450 KM Chennai-Bangalore  NH and rest all in Chennai traffic).

Initially I thought that it would definitely take certain transition period from Petrol to Diesel engine drive more over I never had a good opinion about Tata cars but this car has proved me wrong.

The following are my personal opinion; the readers should keep in mind that I was driving Santro Xing most of my driving experience

      Positives:

      1. Sturdy
      2. Excellent space and comfort
      3. Big boot space
      4. Features like Mileage to Go Indicator, Outside temperature, Bluetooth and steering wheel remote control
      5. Height adjustable Steering
      6. Nice pickup/performance
      7. Excellent Mileage (20-22 in HN and 14-16 in city)

      Negatives:

      1. Rear design
      2. Bad finish and poor plastics
      3. 2nd and 5th Gear Shifting is little hard
      4. Right side visibility is not great
      5. Doors need heavy push to lock
      6. Lights are not power enough for night drive

      Final Punch:

I love this car and can recommend to others. Will definitely update you more about the car after the first service.

      Regards

i My car MANZA -DSL has clocked 32000 Kms over a period of 16 Months at an average running of 2000kms/Month.The exterior styling of the car is best in its class if you compare it to the Swift Dzire or even the Toyota ETIOS. Specially the front grille gives it a very upmarket feel in its segment. The rear is also good.Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

The interiors is something that TATA has really improved on if you compare it to the earlier INDICA/INDIGO era. The odometer has a very retro look and a combination of the black and white dials actually justify the tagline "CLASS APART".The quality of materials used are a bit tacky which is understandable as the car is accordingly priced. The interior and the boot space can be compared to that of a Toyota Corolla  and is a major USP.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

The Engine is the same 1.3litre Multijet diesel which also does the job in the swift, swift dzire, Ritz,Punto, Linea and the SX4 diesel. The engines are tuned accordingly for better fuel effeciency. The car drives well, However it has some turbo lag under 2000rpm. However once the needle crosses 2000rpm, the Turbo kicks in and this car is FUN and goes all VVvvvvrrrrrooooooommmmm !!!!.

I drive with a light foot, so i have managed to get maximum out of this car in terms of fuel effiency. In City conditions with the AC on i have managed to achieve 15 Kms/Litre. On highways 19kms/Litre. I had taken the car to goa few months back on the beautiful NH4 Highway where i drove the car for 625 kms at a stretch. It gave me an astonishing figure of 22 Kms/Litre.

Moral of the story: If you give the car respect by driving at decent speeds and with a light foot and no sudden braking, The car will reward you with a greater Fuel effeciency and Low Maintenance.

      Final Words

This car is a great VFM offering. However the biggest mistake we people do is buy a SPACIOUS car like a MANZA with all the upmarket offerings and features, space, comfort etc.and compare it to the Citys, the fiestas, the vernas etc.. We nowhere think about getting such a big spacious car at a price which is almost 2.5 to 3 lacs cheaper than the D-Segment sedans. I guess the day we understand this phenomena, all our questions will be answered and we will accept the fact that, if one wants a big sedan at an affordable cost, one will have to compromise and accept few niggles that come along with a TATA Product.

      Areas of improvement

Quality of Materials used can be better,Suspension can be better, Better Service network, Good sales executive with propoer product knowledge,

      Hi all

I took the delivery of my Manza Quadrajet Aura ABS on 4th Ja 10. Booked on last 12th Dec 09. The vehicle was delivered on 28th Dec 09. I am really excited to drive this power horse!

I already own a spark LT which has run 30,000 kms in 2 years 3 months. Now I wanted to go for a diesel one which has all features...I had been waiting for a good launch since the beginning of 2009. I had these cars in my mind before zeroed in Manza

      1. Ikon TDCI (Has good build quality, good engine, but decade old look!!!, no features!!!)

      2. Fiesta TDci (Good engine, good mileage, poor ground clearance, build quality is not so good)

      3. Logan (Very good vehicle in all aspects. Lacks in look and features)

      4. Xylo (Good for big family...my wife and daughter felt that it seems like sitting in an omni bus inside Xylo...so not so impressive for me)

I dint have any inclination to Maruti (DeZire) products as they dont value the back seat passengers. All are cramped interiors (including SX4). They un necessarily creat artificial demands on cars like Swift and DeZire.

I have good faith on Linea...but the price tag for the same features as in Manza is too much. I have to pay nearly 2 to 2.5 lakhs more for the same featured Linea. Moreoever the sholder height and head room of the rear seat is so horrible in Linea.

As you can guess, for every new launch the other one was removed from the list. I was about to book Xylo in last Oct 09. By that time the launch news of Manza came and I waited for it.

After the launch, I took the test drive of Manza extensively. On all types of terrains. City, Highways, etc.

You wont believe, it has satisfied all my expectations. I drove upto 120 kmph and applied break (in ABS version)...it just came to halt without any trouble. While applying break I took my hands off from steering to check it. This was the reason why I wanted ABS for me.

The dealer GEM motors from Coimbatore assured the delivery before 31st Dec 09. The executive who followed up me was prompt in service and I had good time till I took the delivery. Since there were so many deliveries yesterday, they didn't have time to clean the dirts (little) on few corners of the dash board. Anyways...after first service I am planning to set everything right.

To my surprise all the Manzas delivered (I could check only those...) shown 5 kmpl as average fuel economy. When asked, the mechanic said it is the initial set up done in the factory. Now (after some 30 kms run) it shows 9.1 kmpl. I guess it will shoot up to  16 to 18 in couple of days. However, the instant mileage shows upto 25 kmpl (WOW..if its average)

From this week end I will be driving my dream machine on long drives. Let me update the review once every few thousand kilometers.

      Exterior

Superb look. Stylish front, Cat-eye finish

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Mind blowing space, features and extreme comfort (heard that Benchmark is Benz S-class )

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

Silent engine, just zooms when the turbo kicks, gear ratios are good, yet to get the correct fuel economy. Guess it should be anything above 17 kmpl

      Ride Quality & Handling

Cornering is really good. Could handle just like a small car. I have spark. So I am able to compare.

      Final Words

If you have plans to go for any diesel sedan, dont hesitate! Go for Manza! you wont regret.

      Areas of improvement

The dual tone interiors are prone to dirt. The finger impressions will easily be visible. This color can be changed to something else (as in Xylo)

AFTER 1400 KMS (FIRST SERVICE DONE!!!)

Today my manza has gone for first service (between 1000 and 1500 kms). I could not believe that last two days I drove about 900 kms across various cities in Tamilnadu.
I went for a family trip starting from Coimbatore-Salem-Trichy-Kumbakonam-Karaikal and returned to Coimbatore yesterday night.
OOOppppsss...I just loved the journey...(except few bad roads: cursing the highways authorities). Here are the few experience that I wanted to share with all of you!
-> The speed at which it cruises is just mind blowing. I touched 140 (100 to 140 in 30 secs) once in a four lane high way. You wont believe when I checked the RPM..it was just less than 3000 when the speedo shown 140 KMPH !!!. I just did this only once and I recorded the video also. If anyone wants, pls send a mail to s.mohan77@gmail.com, I can share it.
-> The best speed for mileage is 90 kmph at 2000 rpm. At this speed I got more than 17. Otherwise my average mileage so far is 16.6 KMPL.
->The shocks are really good that the passengers feel so comfortable inside (this I tested as I drove on a very bad road between kumbakonam and Karaikal: 50 kms)
-> The AC is quick and effective. No engine lag while the AC is on.
-> The power of the engine is so amazing that I could overtake any cars very comfortably. Many swifts, innovas, Scorpios, fiestas, City (old) I took over. The only car crossed me was New Honda City (I was just driving at 90 kmph to manage mileage!!!). Twice I had race. Once with old city and once with Vista (T-board)..Man I didn’t struggle to manage them. It was pretty simple to show the power of Manza...Finally they gave up!
-> The back seat is supremely comfortable as my parents and 7 year old daughter (she was playing!) just enjoyed on board.
-> The braking is the one which makes you feel like king. You apply, it will give you the confidence to go at any speed. It comes to halt just in no time. some couple of incidents (some real idiots) tested my ABS.
-> I should say about the steering (hydraulic assisted) which was as firm as ever. You can point anywhere accurately. I just loved those stereo and bluetooth controls. I never stopped anywhere for attending my phone calls. I downloaded all my contacts in to that...
-> I used the lowest height for seating position at highways and the steering as well. For the city drive I pushed the seat little up to have better visibility.

Few problems that I faced (though not severe)
-> Felt little pain over right foot ankle after driving more than 400 kms while returning (may be due to the height of accelerator pedal)
-> The alarm sound (not the indicator) for the seat belt stopped working. Today the service people attended and said there was some loose connection in fuse. It was fixed.
-> The Jackie holder at the bottom of the car touched some uneven (really stupid road contractors) humps. Nothing to worry as no where else the bottom touched...
-> The car is too big to clean. If some one (like me :-) ) is lazy to clean the car, either appoint a cleaning person (will definitely ask more for this car) or take it to nearby water service station for cleaning regularly.  (take it on the lighter side....)
->Still the back mud flop is not available with dealers. The look from the back really sucks without mud flop. Should be there in a couple of days.
STILL THINKING! Don’t stop at any show rooms. Go to TATA show room and book a Manza! I am sure you will feel like a KING. Its the flying machine!
More updates after 5000 kms..till then its bye from Mohan

      Exterior

THE EXTERIORS ARE MILES BETTER THAN THAT OF SWIFT DZIRE WHICH ARE SUCH BOXY IN SHAPE.THE EXTERIORS SPEAK VOLUMES FOR THE ELEGANT DESIGN OF THE CAR.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

THE DUAL TONE DASH WITH 2 DIN INTEGRATED MUSIC SYSTEM WHICH IS BLUETOOTH COMPATIABLE WITH YOUR MOBILE PHONE.THE DRIVER INFORMATION SYSTEM AND THE STYLE OF DASH IS JUST SO DIFFENT FROM INDICA VISTA WHICH MALED IT TRULY A DIFFERENT PRODUCT.

Engine Performance, Fuel Economy and Gearbox

THE ENGINE IS QUITE GOOD THE 90PS PETROL AND DIESEL ENGINES ARE VERY POWERFUL .THE GEAR SHIFT IS SMOOTH AND WHEN ON HIGHWAYS WHEN YOU JUST SWITCH TO 5TH GEAR AND PESS THE ACCELARATOR AT 100KM/PH OR 120 KM/PH THE CAR JUST GOES LIKE A ROCKET TILL 160KM/PH TO 180KM/PH AND THAT SPEED THE IS QUITE IN CONTROL IT HANDLES PRETTY WELL.WITH THE FUEL ECONOMY OF 21KM/PH IT IS ONE OF THE  FEW FUEL EFFICIENT CARS IN INDIA.WITH AL THESE FEATURES IT FUN TO DRIVE INDIGO MANZA.

      Ride Quality & Handling

      SUPERB

      Final Words

IT IS THE MOST PREFERRABLE SEDAN TO BUY OVER SWIFT DZIRE BECAUSE IT IS CHEAP,POWERFUL,AND YET COMES WITH MORE FEATURES THAN DZIRE.

THE THINGS I LIKE ABOUT MANZA IS EXCELLENT STYLE,PERFORMANCE,INTERIOR,EXTERIOR AT VERY LOW PRICETHINGS I DON'T LIKE ABOUT MANZA IS THAT IT IS PRICED AT SUCH LOW THAN I EXPECTED IT TO BE.

Posting in parts. Hope you find the time to read the whole of it and find it useful, We purchased the Tata Indigo Manza Quadrajet Aura ABS model on the 12th of March 2010 after 5 long weeks of delivery time. We have completed 7000 odd kms till date, much more than what we had anticipated while buying the car. I had zeroed down on this car in Nov 2009 itself, but my wife wasn’t very comfortable with the idea of driving such a big car. So off we went into a 3 months loop to test drive a lot of other cars: Estilo, i10, i10 automatic, Getz, Ritz petrol, Ritz diesel, Swift Diesel etc. At the end of this long exercise and 3 test drives on the Manza diesel alone (from the three different dealers in Bangalore J), we finally booked the Manza in Breeze Blue colour.

Exterior Aerodynamically, the car is very well shaped. It has smooth contours from the front till the end rear windshield. The rear is raised a little bit and comes down suddenly giving it a very classy feel like the old Cadillac or some very spacious and high-end cars like Accord/Camry. Interestingly, care has been taken that the rear doesn’t look too boxy like the Logan. From a utility perspective, the design is such that the ratio of inside space to outside space is very high. No bulges like the Swift/Dzire/i20 that are about as wide as the Manza on the outside but have much less shoulder width to offer, esp. at the rear seat. I liked the idea of having side indicator lamps just in front of the ORVMs and not at the extreme end of the ORVM, since it reduces the possibility of something hitting the ORVM and breaking the indicator glass; a very likely event in India.

      Interior (Features, Space & Comfort)

Features: Simply loaded with all the important features. I won’t repeat the list but just mention that the integrated Bluetooth system is an extremely useful feature and more than compensates for some other less important features like lack of climate control or rear AC vents. Not to forget that the AC is very powerful and chills the cabin pretty fast. Music system has nice stereo effect with 4 speakers and 2 tweeters but bass is hollow. Two power sockets, under seat tray, dimming lights, fuel-efficiency and distance to empty indicators, lumbar support and seat height adjustment (only top 2 models) etc are some of the nice features provided in this car. Steering mounted audio controls appear too small to use, but are in fact very comfortable to use and one gets used to them in no time.

Interiors: Beige & gray colours, are a welcome change from the standard black interiors offered in most of the cars. This colour combination makes the car look very bright and airy inside. The overall feel of the car is very upmarket and lavish. In some respects, I find it similar to the Innova with its high seating…say a mini-Innova that is cheaper by about 4 lakhs and more fuel efficient by 4km/l J

Space & Comfort: Simply amazing. Cars which are much more expensive than the Manza cannot give such space and comfort; not the Honda City or Ford Fiesta, not the Linea with restricted headroom at the rear, Corolla might be the closest competitor here. Logan is the only car below 12 lakhs that beats the Manza in shoulder space, but it has lesser legroom. It’s best not to talk about cars like Verna, Accent, Octavia and Dzire that have very cramped rear seats. Also high seats and doors opening widely ensure that ingress/egress is a breeze.

Qualities of plastics used & fit & finish: I have read a lot of negative comments about this aspect. However, personally I found no major problems with this. Its certainly has room for improvement, but not so much that someone will decide against buying a Manza for this reason. For instance the alignment of the trunk lid was not proper and some rainwater leaked into the trunk during the first few showers. Certainly disappointing for a 7lakh + sedan, but a small visit to the Prerana Motors workshop on Old Madras Road, Bangalore has fixed the problem for good. Personally, didn’t find anything wrong with quality of plastics. Plastic gaps are non-uniform with maybe 2mm at one end and 2.5 mm at the other, but this could be a botheration only for the clinically perfect.
