Skoda is set to launch the DSG automatic variant of the Rapid on September 25. The entry-level sedan will use the updated 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
Engine and gearbox
There are hardly any cosmetic changes to the Rapid and all the efforts are gone into offering the first dual-clutch diesel AT in the segment. Skoda Rapid will use the retuned 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder TDI engine developing 103bhp and 250Nm of torque, which was recently launched with the Polo GT TDI. The power will be delivered to the front-wheels via a seven-speed DSG gearbox. As of now, the Rapid will be the only C-Segment sedan to offer DCT (dual-clutch transmission) with a diesel engine. However, it seems that Volkswagen will introduce the same package with the soon to be launched Vento facelift.
Features, Price and competition
We are not expecting too many additions to the features list of this Skoda Rapid variant. However, with the additional technology, this will now be the new top-end variant for the Rapid range. This model will compete with the Hyundai Verna as the second diesel AT in the segment. The Rapid is not a feature rich car and should undercut the Verna AT by a decent margin. We expect Skoda to price the Rapid AT between Rs 11 lakh and Rs 11.5 lakh.
