I can't believe that Volkswagen will bring Jetta in India at a higher price to Honda Civic. In the USA, this car is positioned next to the Civic.

Just go to Edmunds.com and read reviews b/w Jetta and Civic before you buy anything. The same models are being offered in India.

And I don't get this:
1) Skoda, Audi, VW are owned by same company.
2) Skoda has the latest platform in Laura. And believe it or not, Skoda's reliability ratings are consistently better than VW over the years. Other things going for Skoda (relative to VW) are its bigger dealer network (50+ for Skoda, 7 for VW).

In absolute terms though, Skoda is a scam as well. All over the world (except India) the Laura is just the next version of Octavia. And its called Octavia all over the world. In India, Skoda guys did the clever trick of badging it "Laura" and charging 3L more for it.

I don't know when these foreign car makers will give respect to Indian buyers...

Cheers.

Jj: I have owned the following cars over the years. I bought the first 2 used n others new: 1) 1999 BMW 328iS ~ 120k miles - sold 2) 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser V8 ~ 115k miles 3) 2000 Volkswagen Jetta ~ 104k miles 4) 2004 Hyundai Accent - sold 5) 2007 Honda City ZX VTEC Jetta gave me trouble from first yr itself. BMW was rock solid. So is the cruiser and so is the Honda. Hyundai also was a bit of troubled vehicle. Hope this clarifies my info.Glad to see the Octy is working well for u.

Gopal is comparing Jetta with Indica! Tata will take another 25 years to make cars like VW... Jetta has won several awards for its safety features & TDI engine. FYI it comes with 10 airbags as standard... and the build quality is better than VW's Czech cousin Skoda.

gopal-i think you should compare a jetta to something like an octavia, civic or altis NOT an indica! the 1.9 TDI engine the jetta comes with is recognised as one of the best, most advanced diesel engines in the world by professional reviewers.also-the interior is very quiet and comfortable and i can tell you so because i have both a jetta and an indica.

Ash, Methinks you know absolutely nothing except the names of a few car brands and their countries of origin. A review is meant to have facts backed by logic and not opinions based on bias. I have used a Skoda Octavia for 5 years now and am extremely happy with the price to performance of this car. The Civic pales in comparison. I have also been in the US and the Jetta is considered a shade above the Civic purely from a brand perspective and thats a fact. The Ash review is hollow at

I think the VW Jetta is a ripoff. For the same price approx. you can buy a Honda Accord 2009 model, which is miles ahead in performance, comfort, safety, service & prestige. Besides, the diesel Jetta is very noisy (compare to the Tata Indica). The petrol Jetta is very sluggish & badly underpowered (compare to Tata Indica).
