Maruti Suzuki SX4 Diesel Coming in Early 2010

Maruti Suzuki SX4 Diesel
Expected in Early 2010
Estimated price: Rs 7.5 - 8.5 lakh
Maruti Suzuki’s men were back in the form of the SX4 with a 1.6l engine powering the car with 101 horses. The SX4 design is suitable for Indian roads with its high ground clearance and 15-16 inch tyres. After the huge success of the diesel variants of the Swift and Dzire over their respective petrol versions, the company plans to roll out the SX4 diesel with the DDiS engine.

Engine:
After using the Fiat 1.3l multijet engine for its Swift and Swift Dzire, Maruti will continue to use the  Fiat 1.6MJD with an addition of a variable-geometry turbo (VGT). The Fiat powerplant is highly efficient and reliable like the 1.3MJD.

Features:
The SX4 diesel is the twin of its petrol variant. There is no difference between the two except for their hearts.

Competitors:
The main rivals of the SX4 will be its own petrol sibling, the Honda City, Fiat Linea, Ford Fiesta and the Hyundai Verna. The SX4 has a huge plus with the Maruti brand having the largest after sales service across India.

Specs (Speculated)
Engine: 1248cc (Diesel)
Power: 85bhp
Torque: 203Nm
Length (mm): 4490
Width (mm): 1735
Height (mm): 1570
Wheel Base (mm): 2500
Ground Clearance (mm): 190
Front Track (mm): 1500
Rear Track (mm): 1495
Boot space (litres): 505
CarWale's Words: Another hit for Maruti, provided the engine has good power delivery.

This redesign might come about in 2011 and not before, the engines would be updated to meet emission norms and the same body shell would sell basically unchanged for the next two years.

Is the new SX4 diesel going to use the same 1.3 multijet ingine or going to employ a new mulitjet ingine from Fait?

Would you please tell me when the new upgrade swift diesel is going to launched which is going to be a bit wider and longer than the present version of swift diesel. Moreover tyhe power is going to be increased to 80 bhp from present 75 bhp. Would like to know when its going to be launched.

Maruti Suzuki dealerships in Bangalore are offering hefty discounts to the tune of Rs 62.5 lac and mouthwatering freebies to clear the SX4 stock.  When I wanted Azure Grey colour, one of the dealership expressed in the negative.  When I said that I could wait till they get that particular colour for me, they expressed that their inability and I was given the option of choosing the available colour at the dealership.  They informed me that Maruti Suzuki was clearing the stock hence massive discounts/freebies.  It seems, the present SX4 engine complies with BS III emission norms and Maruti Suzuki might bring a new variant that complies with BS IV emission norms from 2010.  All these uncertainties made me go in favour of Fiat Linea 1.4 l petrol Emotion Pack Medium Grey, which complies with BS IV emission standards.  I booked and am awaiting delivery of the car.

Hi

Here is some info

"Maruti had promised that 2009 was going to be the year of increasing its presence in the diesel end of the market and had plans to push its premium sedan SX4 into the diesel category. But the company is running into delays in procuring the diesel engine from Fiat.
Fiat is already a supplier for Suzuki's SX4 range in Europe with a 1.9 litre engine.
In India, Maruti is keen on a 1.6 litre engine to help keep the price tag relatively lower but currently Fiat has licensed Suzuki to make only the 1.3 litre unit in India, not the 1.6 or 1.9 for that matter.

Maruti was keen on launching the diesel SX4 since Honda's new City came in to the market in October last year.

But Fiat did not want a clash with its new Linea that came into India this January. Fiat is expected to first launch a more powerful diesel Linea and that’s why the SX4 gets pushed to 2010.
This may not be great for Maruti as the SX4 has been steadily losing share with the Honda City now outselling the SX4. In the last six months, Honda sold 15,000 Cities while Maruti sold just 8000 SX4s.
Maruti is hoping the diesel SX4 revives the model's fortunes as it currently also gets cannibalised by the Swift Dzire.

Maruti is sticking to its volumes strategy and the new SX4 will only add to that but by ensuring that the engines are made in India, Maruti is also keeping one eye firmly on the margins."

So, no SX4 Diesel this year?
