I test drove the new Tata Grande the other day. The vehicle is huge and very spacious.
I am 6'4'' and I was comfortably sitting in the last row. The vehicle has loads of space, so much that you can play badminton inside
A lot has been said about the plastics used in the vehicle. I did not find any such issue with which I cannot live.
The biggest turn down for the vehicle is the dashboad. I mean for a 8 lac plus vehicle the design is absolutely rubbish. After 2 upgrades of the vehicles, TATA should have given a thought about this. The design of the dashboard is a true copy of the Sumo model. After foresaking the Sumo name from the Grande, TATA should have worked on the dashboard.
When I drove the vehicle, there was a krr krr sound in the engine, the one which is a trademark of the Sumo vehicle. I closed all window panes but still the sound was noticeable inside the car. No idea if this is common with DICOR engines??
The front passenger seat is very comfortable but on the driving seat, it was cramped for me. I am 6'4''. With the clutch on extreme left, I had no space for moving on the seat. Gettingin and out of the driving seat was also not smooth. The seats are extremely comfortable though. I found the clutch too hard to press.. Not sure if this being a new vehicle and just 74 km clocked on the odometer the clutch was so hard.
The odometer is very basic. Reminded me of the M800. Nothing much to write about.
I want to buy this vehicle but still not sure. The engine sound was too much for me, the dashboard has been a disappointment. When I compare the overall vehicle with the price, I am not finding this a value proposition. Only thing which goes in favour of the vehicle is the space.
I am planning another test drive next week this time with the family.
